Slightly sadly, perhaps, I am proud to announce that I have a statto letter published in this month's edition of The Kop magazine

Regular readers of "O this day in Liverpool history" could have written the same letter

For those of you who are eager to know what it is about (all of you, surely?), here it is in full:

"The Kop and the specail FA Cup publication both repeat the myth that Xabi's second goal at Luton was the first time ever we have scored from inside our own half - not true!

Doanld Mackinlay scored from 10 yards inside his own half as we won 2-1 at West Ham United on 16th January 1926.

See here: http://www.ynwa.tv/news/index.php/2006/January/445"

And it got a reply too:

"Dr Kop: Idid spend a long time checking the record books trying to find if Xabi was the first Redman to score from his own half - but it's not the kind of information that is easy to find. Thanks for putting us straight - I bet Donald Mackinlay never got a b******ing off his own captain for doing it though!"

So, my day is made....

No - that is the actual official weekly club magazine

Regular = twice ever, by the way :bleh:

Did you add the "specail" typo for effect?

Got it right in the letter, but mis-spelled it when I transcribed it for you all...

I would be delighted to learn of the details if you have any...

Will ? I?d heard of this but not seen it in writing. My investigations show that he hit a shot from over the half way line and it hit the top of the kop net (as per Wooltonian?s writings) but when Xabi scored there was a mention of Liddell doing it to. Maybe its in his autobiography (anyone got that??? I?d love a copy!!).

Not got his autobig, which I too would love! But I have got John Keith's "Billy Liddell - The Legend Who Carried The Kop", but I haven't yet read that - maybe that will be my next reading matter....
