Extract from Offal site:

"'Ring of Fire' is a song I've heard the fans singing for years now and it's a great, great record," claims Howard who cites the 1965 FA Cup Final as his earliest memory of supporting Liverpool. "I can remember travelling over to Monaco as a supporter and on the plane, this fella got out of his seat, stood in the aisle and led the whole plane in a rendition of 'Ring of Fire'. It was a class moment. In fact, everywhere I've been with Liverpool over the last few years, you always hear groups of supporters humming the tune or singing the chorus at airports or in bars.

Am I having a senior moment? I can't EVER recall this.

(PS - I am an OOT'er :) )

Two years, maybe.

I'm sure someone (Rushian maybe ??) mentioned that it started at Birmingham away, back in 03/04 when we won 3-0 to secure CL qualification.

The article about it the other day said it's been going since 2002.

To be honest, I've only been conscious of it at the match for about 2 years now. First time I really remember it being sung with gusto was away at Fulham when we came back and Igor scored a screamer last season...

I'm sick of hearing it.

Ring of Fire is as rousing as YNWA is inspiring.

I find myself whistling or singing it at least ten times a day, every day

me too. And that YNWA rubbish

Yeah, it might be a coincidence but has anyone noticed that they always play it just before the teams come out? I mean like, EVERY GAME ? Do we only have a one record collection these days? I remember hearing loads of other songs at Anfield over the years but it seems to becoming a thing of the past.

I admit I haven't been to a game yet this season but when was the last time you heard blasting out of the tannoy a disc of Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson singing "Little bird"? Or Harry Belafonte's "Scarlet ribbons"? I have long since given up hope of ever hearing "Dominique" by the Singing Nun.

I think it's about time George Sephton got Rick Parry to up his budget for next season.

sorry to be the sad act but it's an ok song. granted the fans chanting is drowned out by the trumpets and guitars but its not bad compared to some of our other cup final songs: pass n move, kenny d pride of liverpool, sitting on top of the world, yeah we can do it, liverpool lou (stop me i could go on)

I have the Kop singing "We won it 5 times" as my message ringtone. As soon as I get message one for the day I'm off... I keep humming it for the day then.... Feck I've started now

I love the song Ring OF Fire - I just hate ths fact that most of our fans get to the second lot of der-der-der-der-der-der-der-ders and then that's it. its like listning to a bunch of snotty teenage carol singers who don't anything past 'we wish you a merry christmas' cause they don't know the rest of the words.

I it's possible that anyone hear doesn't know the Johnny Cash version it's the background music here. You need to enter the site to hear it.

Err, no it isn't. Could be that the site has a random soundtrack. But, if you select "audio", it's in there.

couple of years ago in Birmingham, was when i heard it first. the first full scale effort by an entire travelling Kop was Fulham away last season, the 4-2 one where Igor scored from 25 yards

If we're talking about Rousing songs then I tihnk 'Conflict' from a band called disturbed fits the bill nicely... You might know it from a certain gerrard compilation too... it's totally nuts though and would have the opposition team going off in the ambulance after 15 mins...

ahh well
