I read both the online "toned-down" version of The Evening Standard, and the "pick-me-up" versions and guess what ? The headline is completely different. Read the quotes and he never said what the rag headline said, but it you read the online version it is more conservative. I don't believe he's a "sulky git" by nature, but like the cream of the crop became more disillusioned as players got sold to fund the purchase of others. He was "happy as larry" when banging them in from 25-30 yards between '07 and '09 - as I've said before, that player has gone. He referenced Arbeloa and Crouch who left for different reasons, but they were not the knockout blows. As we know Xabi and Mascherano were, (and Agger's and Aurelio's constant injury issues AND the "rug effect" with Barry and Jovetic). If he felt he was in a "dark" position, guess what I know how he feels. It is sh*t when you aspire to be the best (don't we all), but feel that you are being held back. He was - and we, by hook or by crook, were restraining his ambition. What frustrates is that he seems to have hood-winked himself into thinking his new employers are "the highest level". They are not, as anyone with half a brain knows. Quality has been severely eroded this season and as much as we have have fallen, Chelsea are no guarantee to what he aspires to. They're just a better bet. I can't blame him for taking that option - what else was there ? That said, I couldn't reconcile his comparison that we had become like his boyhood Madrid club....... I would have left under Hodgson if I was him, but the fault-lines appeared much earlier than his appointment. F*ck off Purslow, and long live The King. (Sorry if repeated anyone's posts)
