He's not a "defensive" player, hence when the Keane, Viera and Makalele comparison becomes redundant, as their qualities were predominantly based around breaking up play. He was was setting up counter-attacks in Istanbul from right-back and still does it now from a deep-lying position. Zidane had far better close control and guile than Gerrard, but Gerrard's eye for a pass, be it from 10, 20 or 40 yards is eye-popping. That pass to Sturridge at Fulham has to be pass of the season.

The thing with Lallana is his versatility - he can play all across midfield and even as a 10. Don't like comparisons but if he fulfills his potential Shaw could be the next Bale.
