    Hillsborough

Thought I'd post this, in case it hasn't already been seen by YNWA'ers-> Petition to bring forward Inquest It's the E-Petition, mentioned in the below article, to bring forward the Inquest into Kevin Williams' death, due to the news of Anne's battle with cancer. 10,000 signatures and counting.
  2. I guess so, but for the time being at least Wisdom and Johnson look set. Enrique and Downing are fit but not in the first 11 (at least not starting LB) and Kelly despite his injuries was one of our best young players last year and made the England squad playing as RB. McLaughlin is just a kid yes, but so are Sterling, Suso, Wisdom, etc. Unless the LB's step up I think Johnson will remain there.
  3. Agreed Adder, Kelly is brilliant all-round right back. Hopefully he and Wisdom will both prove versatile enough for CB cover, especially if Ryan McClaughlin can continue the progress he showed in pre-season. Looking increasingly like Johnson will stay at LB permanently considering the options available on the other side of the field.
  4. Liking the haircut Raheem, very early 90s.
  5. Bingo. Ban anyone doing this kind of crap. They're not welcome and the kind of people that will do it once are likely to do it again and again if you don't remove them. There should be a zero tolerance attitude on this if the two clubs are serious about stamping it out.
  6. Watched a documentary on the BBC last night about the 'Munich Massacre'. It was well before my time and I'll be honest I'd never even heard of it. For those who don't know a group of Palestinian terrorists went into the 1972 Munich Olympic village and took members of the Israeli Olympic team hostage, eventually killing all 11. iplayer link to the oscar-winning documentary -> http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0074ksy/Storyville_Olympic_Massacre_One_Day_In_September/ What really struck me was the total ineptitude of the police and officials throughout the incident. There was a lack of even the basics like personal radios between snipers, inadequate weapons and training, police set to ambush the terrorists abandoned their posts, snipers were set up in line of fire of each other. The police even prepared a raid live on TV while the terrorists had TVs showing the coverage in the rooms. A month or so later terrorists hijacked a plane and demanded the surviving terrorists be extradited to Libya which the German authorities did immediately, in an event suggested to be orchestrated by the Germans. For 20 years the authorities refused to release information, hid thousands of documents and did not accept responsibility for the results. There are even reports that the authorites were tipped off by an informant 3 weeks before the incident and has since tried to cover-up their mishandling of the whole affair. Maybe it's just the parellels of injustice and negligence from yesterday but it really struck a chord with me.
  7. Depends on the conditions of the 'option' really. Milan and Juve had the 'option' to buy Aquilani if i remember correctly.
  8. My guess is the latter. We seem fairly set in the formation we've been playing under Rodgers. Would be interested to see Gerrard in the forward line with Shelvey in the midfield role rather than vice versa though.

    Lucas

Aweful news to see him out again. Such an important player for us. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but why on earth did we start him when he'd already felt something going in the warm up? The Sahin signing is all of a sudden looking much more important than it was.
  11. If it's only a loan signing I can't see Sahin being first choice anyway. We wouldn't have spent so much on Allen only to bench him, and Lucas and Gerrard are better players than Sahin anyway. Sahin looks like an opportunistic signing to add quality to the squad at low cost (as Siggurdson would've done and maybe Assaidi has done). I rate him and it'll be good if we get him in but it's not the end of the world if we don't pull off a loan signing for a squad player. The main plus for me if he comes in is it would likely push Adam out the door and we can add the money from his sale to bringing in another forward.
  12. Fantastic goal Sterling. Shame my stream froze just before it!
  13. My old Primary school in Southport chooses to spend its recession-hit budget on individual ipads for each year 6 student and more ipads for each class of other years. The kids get to take the things home and do all their schoolwork and homework on them. P'sses me off, we didn't even have an Amiga when I was there.
  14. I'm still hopeful of seeing Kelly moving into the CB position at some point, especially when you see the likes of McLaughlin showing such promise for the RB spot.
  15. I'm with you there. Really don't see where all the love for Aquilani comes from. He's had a bad attitude from the start and taken us for mugs, yet he seems to have a cult following. I want to see him succeed and become a good player for us because it would be good for LFC but can't say i like him. Another of those players who people rate more the less they plays for us (e.g. Cole, Maxi, Meireles, N'gog, the huge list of wonderkids we've had over the last 10 years who haven't made it, etc).
  16. Good. £10m is too much for Dempsey considering he only has a year left on his deal. He'd be a good addition to the squad in my opinion but it seems we have decided not to pay over what we think a player is worth (as already seen with Sigurdson) - and that's how it should be. I wonder how far we'll go for Allen? Rodgers should know better than anyone his true value to a team, and personally I'd really like us to get him in, but again we may have a number we just won't go beyond.
  17. Scouted via the Internet? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Presumably if we go for him (whoever he is) we'll have checked him out a few times in person?
  18. Wow, 6 months. Scary prospect losing a talent like him. Let's hope the owners have their heads screwed on as to contracts.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18921492 At least 14 people have been killed in a shooting at a Batman film premiere in the US city of Denver, police say. About 50 people have been injured in the incident at the cinema complex in the suburb of Aurora. Witnesses say a gunman wearing a gas mask opened fire during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises. A man was arrested in a car park nearby in possession of a rifle and hand-gun. He told police that explosives were stored at his home. Police chief Dan Oates told reporters that an apartment block in the north of Aurora had been evacuated as a consequence of that information. More weapons may have been left in the cinema, he said. 'No terrorism link' The incident at the Century 16 cinema complex began at approximately 00:30 local time (06:30 GMT). "Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire," the police chief said. "The shooting apparently went on for some time," he said. Ten people were killed at the cinema and four others died later at hospital of their wounds, he said. The FBI, which is working with the police, say there is no terrorism link so far in their investigations, ABC reports. Many ambulances at the scene and the Swedish Medical Center, not the area's main hospital, told the BBC it had received several gunshot victims and expected more. One witness said a man in a bullet-proof vest and riot helmet had been "slowly making his way up the stairs and just firing - picking random people". An eyewitness told the BBC that about 30 or 40 minutes into the film a man came into the right-hand exit nearest the front row. "I'm pretty sure wearing [a] mask. He fired a canister into the air - it could have been a smoke bomb or tear gas," the woman, identified only as Pam, told the BBC. "It shot it right into the air, then I started to hear the bang, bang, bang of a gun. "I crawled my way through the row, luckily the exit was close to where I was sitting so I got out pretty fast. I heard more shots as I left," she said. A witness in the next-door theatre told 9News that when he heard loud bangs and a lot of smoke and initially thought they were live special effects put on by the cinema. Projectiles came through the wall from the neighbouring screening, he said.
  20. Same. I just don't think he's that good and to be honest I can't see him improving a great deal. Never worth the reputed 100k/week contract he's after at Arsenal. He's still young but if injuries take some of his pace away he'll quickly become a mid-table standard player.
  21. I wonder what 'acceptable' loan terms would be? I don't see any benefit of loaning him out personally. Even if you set a fee with a view to a move at the end of the loan it's pointless. Say we set a £15m fee for at the end of the loan and he bangs in 25 goals... we end up losing out because his new market value would then be more than the pre-set price. Say we set a £15m fee and he scores 5 goals... they simply won't buy him or will renogotiate to a lower fee. Lose-lose situation. I remember saying the exact same thing when we loaned out Aquilani (almost word for word). I very much doubt we'll be stupid enough to make the same mistake twice, but if there are 'acceptable' terms then it suggests to me its not impossible.
  22. Never seen him player and know little about him, but for a 21-year old striker who was in the Italy squad for the Euros that is surely a very good price.
  23. Re Sturridge; if reports are to be believed then one of the reasons he wants to move on from Chelsea is that he's not happy being restricted to the wide positions. I get what you're saying about having a player that can play any of the forward positions but often it's because they aren't consistent or good enough to make any one position their own. He is, as you say, a good young player with good control and pace but if we go for him i hope he's earmarked to play a certain position rather than just to cover gaps.
  24. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (original) Really good. Never read the books or seen any of the films before and had no spoilers on the plot. There was a couple of plot holes i thought as a few things didn't quite add up but I really enjoyed it.
  25. Was on Sky Atlantic on Monday night. There's another next Monday, but i think they're specials rather than a series.
