If he was English, I wonder if (a fit) Eduardo would get in the England side ahead of Owen or indeed Modric ahead of Barry

Self confidence is a vital component of being a great striker - lets not forget young Robbie Fowler was as cocky as they come afterall - but I agree with you I think Owen felt he was too big for this club and hence wanted to move to what he saw as a 'bigger' one. That is a totally different type of confidence and in this instance not necessarily a positive one and ultimately its blown up in his face.
  3. Jeez - there's an awful lot of sniping on here at the moment some guys obviously need a drink/ciggie/w**k.
  4. To be honest £20M would be a fair price for a player who is among the top 4 or 5 passers of the ball in the world. He's not been in the best of form this season (perhaps due to injuries etc) but he is still one of the best on his day. If Barry is worth £15M, then something approaching £20M is reasonable for Alonso. Having said all that, I can't see us getting that much unless we waited until after the Euros and he has a blinder - which he could well do.

I read something a while back about him being linked to Man U. I think if he went to one of the top 4 in this country, he'd 'gladly' take a drop in salary. Newcastle had to pay him shed loads or else he'd never have gone there. He does have ambition but was prepared to put it on what he saw as a temporary hold to go to Newcastle as long as he got paid handsomely for it.
  6. The Johnny H who used to post on Koptalk was generally pretty reliable and certainly more so than the joke that was the 'Insider'. I've not been on there for years though - in fact I can't believe anyone would pay the subscription fee they charge to go on there.
  7. my second team is Yeovil Town so I'd agree with you. Was annoyed when he left Yeo for City but understood his decision to go and its proven a good move for him. Just wish he hadn't taken so many of Yeo's best players with him!
  8. that comp cheered me up no end - nice work.
  9. read that earlier too - he's 16
  10. yeah you're probably right - was just hoping there might be some truth in him coming back to play for us again. Not really too thrilled with any of the other targets mentioned.
  11. Thanks for that
  12. have there been any solid, well-founded rumours about Luis returning or was that just forum gossip??
  13. Riise would have moved very quickly too - to head it into his own net.
  14. Agree with all of that but there is no chance of us getting Iniesta and its amazing that people think we might - he's held in such high esteem at Barca. If we were to go for him, it would take very silly money.
  15. I agree with pretty much all of that. I suspect that one of the central midfield may go and if that's the case Barry is an excellent addition as he is very versatile and can cover a number of positions. He does seem a bit steep at £15M but at £10M or less with a part exchange, I'd be pretty happy.
  16. shouldn't that be Barry/Gerrard?
  17. Well to take that analogy a bit further.... Harrods is certainly Chelsea's style - flash, gaudy and you pay well over the odds there. Whereas at Lidl, you can pick up some very good deals there.
  18. Erm yes but our marketing have been deficient in promoting the Liverpool brand worldwide however (my point was) despite this, we sell quite a few shirts worldwide (not as many as we should/could do) and it will be hard to make a significant dent in that - through a boycott.
  19. True but Alves, Barry, Mancini would be a nice start! Can't see us splashing £20m on Alves really though.
  20. Even if you were trying to!
  21. Alves, Barry, Mancini - that would be a decent summer's work.
  22. That is lame - he scored the own goal because he has a poor footballing brain and no right foot - even when he played week in week out his right foot was woeful.
  23. There's a post from Kaizer brewing I see. Edit: Oh and there it is...right on cue!
  24. I didn't celebrate much either because the game was far from won. To be honest though I didn't at any point last night feel confident we were going to win, for some reason.
  25. The more pertinent question might be why Riise can't kick with 2 feet
