Probably tin hat - not sure FSG could play Klopp like that, for one thing - but I couldn't rule it out. Feasible quid pro quo with Brighton. They get Chelsea to raise their bid; knowing MC wanted only to go to Chelsea, we show our fans there's money to spend (as they often hint at through their media mouthpieces). A massive PR own goal? Sure. But when's that stopped FSG before?

Of all the people employed by the club bar Dalglish, no one exemplifies LFC more than Klopp, and there's no one within or outside the club better equipped to revive the team than he is. Let him get on with it and hope FSG ships out before the rot sets in.

Seems safe to vent now. FSG have finally shown their true colours. Credit to them: they've managed for so long to perpetuate the notion that a big injection of cash is always just around the corner, despite all the proof to the contrary from one window to the next. The excuses have pretty much run dry and there can no longer be any doubt that they're fairly artlessly just riding on Klopp's coattails until their big pay day. Similarly motivated as their predecessors and no savvier, really - just more polished and luckier. All those hundreds of millions of pounds they're sitting on and the architects of that profit don't have access to any of it. (Sign Mbappe in the next hour and all is forgiven.)
