Well I for one can't wait for the return of the buck-toothed Uruguyan loon.

A very good read, that David CONN article. His reporting on Hillsborough - and linked articles such as the Miners at Orgreave - has been excellent.

I've just filled in the IPCC online form, which reads as follows: "Details: 1 Did you attend the match at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989? Yes/No a. If yes, in what capacity: Supporter Police officer Media Ambulance / Fire service Emergency services Other b. If other please specify: c. If no, what is your involvement in relation to the Hillsborough disaster: 2 Did you give an account to the West Midlands Police investigation? Yes/No 3 Were you contacted by West Midlands Police after you gave your account? Yes/No 4 Do you believe the account you gave allowed you to adequately reflect your experiences at Hillsborough? Yes/No 5 If your answer to questions 2 or 4 is no, please briefly outline what you want to say (please limit this to around 400 words as our investigators will expect to take a full account from you in due course)." Question 4 is kind of hard to answer given that I haven't got a copy of my statement - if in fact there is one - but I answered "no" as one of the questions I was asked by West Midlands was how much alcohol I had consumed prior to the match. I never thought about it at the time, particularly, but clearly this was agenda driven and would not have formed part of my statement had I not been led in this line of questioning by the West Midland Officers.

Gillett and Hicks/Rafa = Liverpool's own version of Godwin's Law?
-
I've never really felt that this was the case with Moores, though. Despite his many, many faults I don't think anybody out there seriously believes that he knowingly screwed LFC over in order to boost his own coffers, do they? Much more likely, in my opinion, is some form of older generation dislike for "the Arabs", (i.e. DIC), to which good ol' George and Tom were therefore the perfect alternative.

Big squad overhaul likely this summer ?

Does anybody have any idea as to the division of labour between Kenny and Commoli when it came to the fees paid? Not looking to get Kenny off the hook for the sake of it, but just what was Commoli's input in that? And if it was minimal, what exactly was he there for? Commoli, of course, having been appointed after being vouched for by that well known footie guru Billy Bean. -

I'm not sure that Barca will sell, though, for FSG's valuation of €25m. I am sure that LFC will be "confident" of it going through, however. Until it doesn't, and Barca say that Liverpool never actually put a bid in in the first place. -
I now can't help but picture John Cross writing about Suarez as an Eminem "Stan" type figure, getting more and more desperate and angry as the "relationship" doesn't develop the way he imagined: "Dear Luis, I wrote you but you still ain't calling I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em There probably was a problem at the post office or something" etc. If Suarez is stiil at Anfield in September I can see him writing: "Dear Mister-I'm-Too-Good-To-Call-Or-Write-My-Fans, this'll be the last package I ever send your ass It's been six months and still no word - I don't deserve it? I know you got my last two letters; I wrote the addresses on 'em perfect " It's all going to end in tears.

Not wishing to strike a cautious note - I haven't enjoyed a game against Stoke so much for a long time, the League Cup one excepted - but: Stoke managed to create some very good chances against us, that teams with better finishers will score. Plus, at defensive corners I thought we were struggling. But my greatest ire is reserved for when we have a throw-in deep in our own half. The player taking the throw-in looks around in vain for options. The rest stand still. Then somebody runs towards the thrower, pressed hard by the opposition. A scrambled attempt at a pass back to the thrower and - if we are lucky - a big hoof down the pitch. If not, we are suddenly tying to play keep ball in a perilously dangerous situation. Do they not practise this in the week? We always look utterly devoid of ideas and clueless.
-
Which we'll need next week against Benteke. Should be a good joust, that one. Really impressed with Toure today. See the way he leapt into Mignolet's arms at the end?
-
So are we to presume that Rick Parry didn't try and stop Steven Gerrard going to Chelsea then?
-
I don't think I'll ever stop worrying about Kenny's wellbeing.
-
Thus still keeping their bid below the minimum level where we even have to consider it? As previous posters have commented, this all seems to be part of their strategy to get the Higuain transfer back on track.
-
But he did say, in the same interview, that David Moyes is a great manager and I'm pretty sure that he's never worked with him. Basically it boils down to this: He was asked two questions: 1) Is Brendan Rodgers the right guy for Liverpool? and 2) Is he the best manager you have ever played with? For whatever reason, he only answered the second of those questions.
-
A bit non-committal as regards Brendan Rodgers, or am I reading too much into that?
-
Drank that the last time I was in the States. Lovely. Unfortunately, I drank Sierra Nevada "Torpedo", and it did sink me. Didn't realise that it was over 7% until the next day. Should have paid more attention to the name..

Suarez might be an option for Real Madrid, but is he their preferred option? Given that they are interested in Cavani, and have been negotiating for him, plus they clearly want Bale (see Modric quotes about Bale perfectly fitting the Real Madrid style etc.) does that leave the room or the money to buy Suarez as well? I think Luis really needs to be careful about burning his bridges with LFC but not getting his move to Madrid.

Very, very good indeed. We're still not going to groundshare with them though.

On page 96 of the thread too. Poetic justice.

For which the Suarez furore/ban must be responsible to a large degree, surely? -
Brendan Rodgers - New Liverpool Manager Barnsey_10 is a t**
meredithmathieson replied to Barnesy_10's topic in Liverpool FC
It's this kind of comment that I really don't get. Liverpool FC have been a passing team for the whole of my life (Hodgson-era aside). And have we improved this season? I don't think so, to be perfectly honest. What we do have, however, is a continual downgrading of expectation so that the current manager will not be fired for achieving less than the manager achieved last year. For which he was sacked. -
And the complete absence of a right foot. Although I agree, his hair was the more shocking yesterday.

Bascombe saying that BR wants 3-4 players of quality on a budget of £20m, plus sales. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/9926195/Liverpool-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-wants-three-new-signings-of-Daniel-Sturridge-or-Phillipe-Coutinhos-quality.html -
I agree with Leo. So nobody else sees this as simple "Divide and Rule" then? Keep the Kopites happy so they don't protest, stiff the rest? £70 is a big increase for a team who, as yet, will not be even playing in Europe next year.

Growler: "The key thing is we are financially stable where we can invest sensibly. THAT is down to the owners. And if I remember correctly, all we wanted when we wanted new owners right? Let us spend what we earned?". Which of course they didn't when it came to Dempsey, thereby leaving us light up front from the beginning of the season and completely undermining the manager that they had brought in.
