well ballague points the blame at rick parry ,and without being accused of indulging in 'parry bashing' he just took too much for granted it seems , ballague says that rafa was desperate for gerrard to be tied down and was wondering what the delay with parry was exactly. ballagues book I thought was fascinating ,don't know how accurate it was but the dynamics of gerrard and rafa and how they differed from houllier and gerrard were pretty interesting for a start.Rafa less emotional , not his style to a*** kiss players or put an arm around them.Don't know how much thats changed if at all. gerrard didn't seem to be thinking very rational either at the time,did he really think that he wasn't valued by rafa or that rafa would be leaking stuff to the spanish press in order to sell him? complete madness when you look back on it all now .Right result in the end thank god.

The only person you could play for in the summer of 2004 was gerrard ,he wanted to go becos the club seemed to be going backwards and all an agent does is act on their clients behalf. The summer of 2005 however still seems weird even now ,complete misunderstanding between parry ,gerrard and rafa it seems from the outside looking in anyway . unrelated except defoe being a spurs player but did anyone read chris basecombe in the echo today ? he's got a conspiracy theory of tottenham,chelsea and portsmouth all being linked in soemthing resembling an axis of evil he claims spurs even made last day bids for sissoko ,daniel agger and others that liverpool have signed under rafa. well I thought it was interesting anyway if not taking the heights of parania to ferguson and mourinho proportions. .If the paranoid is correct though it would mean we won't be getting defoe on a reasonable price.

Don't really get into an owen argument but from ballagues book anyway ,rafa sold owen cos he had to sell big to bring in garcia and alonso regardless.I,if we hadn't sold owen the books would have been terrible ,we would have been spending on what we couldn't have afforded at that particular time .Quite an eye opener I thought ,didn't realise it was that bad at that time.
