  1. Hang on, I thought the "experts" on here said Rafa had laid down a marker and would never pay more than a player was worth?
  2. Fowler and Cisse are the most likely to anticipate rebounds/deflections etc. Cisse will provide the speed we lack up front and Fowler the predatory instincts. One thing they have in common is that they have both got a record of sticking the ball in the net. Admittedly Cisse has yet to prove he can do it in England, but being played out on the right he's not likely to. The cross from Gerrard which wandered across the 6 yard box would have been snapped up by either. Fowler will definitely be getting more games than he expected at this rate, and Rafa needs to decide to try Cisse in his natural position for a few games. Crouch needs a break and Morientes needs to stay on the bench.
  3. Think we got the tactics wrong today. Playing Crouch up front on his own is pointless if the midfield aren't going to push up. I don't think he is particularly good at directing the headers he wins, so it is difficult for Kewell to guess where to run to pick up the second ball, as Crouch appears to have a head like a threpenny bit. We therefore need to have the whole midfield pushing up in support, but we seemed to be too focussed on nullifying Chelsea's threat. I think we need to be a bit radical with team selection - bring Didi back into the midfield, have Alonso, Gerard and Kewell in front of him. Ahead of them have Cisse and Fowler and leave Warnock on the bench with Agger, Garcia, Morientes and Crouch.
  4. Ian Rush?
  5. Book yourself a trip to Paris for say, the middle of May, to soak up the culture and the general ambience of the city and whilst there why not attend a football match if there's one on?
  6. The double standards on display with these two players is indeed laughable. The funniest part is how people twist their arguments to try and build a defense of Morientes.... if you can't see how valuable he is to the team you don't understand football, he's not there to score goals he's there to link up midfield and the strikers (which is what his partner Crouch appears to be doing as well!?), if you think Cisse is a better player, you know nothing about football blah blah blah. Fact is neither player has lived up to expectations. Cisse has scored more goals, but is probably better suited to a different system than the one Rafa wants to play. Morientes is more of a team player but seems frightened to go near the opposition goal. I would be interested to see whether having Fowler as a strike partner would bring out the best in either of them, but as it stands come the end of the season I expect them both to go.
  7. Ignoring all the obvious ones.... Mad Erik - always wanted to see him score at the Kop end, reckon the place would have erupted. Joey Jones, he just loved playing for us and always gave his all. Jimmy Case, I think he had the hardest shot ever.
  8. You sir, are one of the "disposable fans of the new millenium"!
  9. Noble comments, does this thought process also apply to Cisse?
  10. Morientes: "I lift these hands, dear God, to You, in praise and thanks for all you do." Fowler: " Will you stop taking the p1ss and Kick off"
  11. You didn't see the game last night then?
  12. Anyone know if you can get a kop adult/child ticket for the utd game if you only have a standard season ticket?
  13. Agger.....blonde.....
  14. When Fowler came on we discovered a cutting edge up front. The movement between Morientes and Fowler was good, but I can't see Morientes staying beyond the summer. He just seems to lack conviction and determination for me, or is he just unlucky?
  15. Graham? He's a goodie but don't think he's a scouser??
  16. What like Fowler's was?
  17. I think we settled for the draw in the last 10 minutes, they didn't, so I don't think they "got a break with a last minute goal" at all.
  18. It was a booking and no more. So Neville's passionate about beating us, so what. We only want players who play for the shirt, that's what Neville does for them.
  19. I think we were also playing right to left on the camera angle.
  20. Riley's got Utd's player of the season award for the last couple of years hasn't he?
  21. Wish the "journalists" involved with such rags would get themselves a proper job. It always baffles me that they can get paid to peddle lies, bigotry and plain stupidity.
  22. We are still a PLC though, and Moores has a duty to other shareholders to notify them of potential investment as it might affect the value of their shares???
  23. If the Krafts have undertaken due diligence wouldn't there have been something on the takeover panel's website about it? The people looking at investing in Villa have had to make a statement to the stock exchange in the last few days stipulating that they are going through due diligence and it might not lead to an offer being made. Haven't seen or heard anything of this nature re us and any potential investors since L4 were on the takeover panel listings last summer(?).
  24. I'm disappointed that he fails to fall properly when an opposition player comes withing 6 feet of him (a la Joe Cole). If he doesn't pay attention to this aspect of play in training I would consider benching him if I were SGE - Rafa obviously has a blind spot here as well, as the rest of the team also seem to lack this important skill.
  25. Thought he had a good game tonight. It would be great to see him back at his best.
