  1. If we are to believe the stuff he came out with recently, and his mania at the time seems to bear this out, he would routinely start games after drinking up to 9 brandies and snorting lines of beak to counter the alcohol!

    Shelvey

He reminds me of (a young) Sammy Lee and I have hopes he will become a Liverpool great. When I see him in a Blackpool shirt though, I think, I want him back!

  11. It's a good job we couldn't afford Walter Hooking-Fastard from PSV then really, isn't it?
  12. See this http://www.ctc-maps.org.uk/routes/route/1209/instructions I know this is FROM* Liverpool and covers the whole Southport to east coast route but from this you get a good idea of the specifics. I can access a very detailed route on the CTC website through my membership and when I've worked out how to get the detailed cyclist's google-earth map to you, I will. * And more people tend to go west to east to take advantage of the prevailing winds. Please be aware the wind may be an added difficulty on the journey.
  13. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2011/11/14/former-liverpool-fc-goalkeeper-ray-clemence-admitted-to-hospital-100252-29774668/ He was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago so let's hope it's not related to that.
  14. Good idea but I don't think you'd get permission now for something like that. If you did, with the roads to cross and the match crowd on the day, they would want to police it and inevitably, a charge will apply. Also, you'd get the 'hello mum' brigade where someone who ran 5k would/may get the same kudos someone who'd just finished a 77-mile three-dayer deserved. Then again, starting off with 2-3 runners and the pack growing all the time sounds great to me. It'll build an unstoppable momentum and really motivate the ones who're doing the whole distance.
  15. Is Kenny Dalglish a better manager or a worse manager than Roy Hodgson? If Hodgson had still been at the helm and we'd seen the results we've seen at Anfield in the last three games, the venom towards him would have been horrendous. And his hands had been tied by the previous owners and he wasn't given 79 gazillion quid to spend. Dalglish's reputation seems to render him untouchable but be honest, has he really been a better manager than his predecessor?
  16. It's only determination like that that'll get you through! Single-minded determination! Chapeau. I'd be happy to provide support. I've also done this on a few Bob Grahams and what it entails is to allow the main man (you and one/more other) to do nothing other than run. That is, carry nowt. No food, no drink, no map, no compass. That is the job of the support. He carries all the other stuff such as waterproofs if needed, energy drinks and all that. Anything carried by the runner adds weight and slows him down. Given the distances involved, you can't underestimate the benefits of having a water-carrier! Seriously, would you do the London Marathon with a rucksack full of food and drink? And then have several days' rest? And the Trans-Pennine runs very close to Hillsborough. The obvious place to begin in Sheffield is at the Meadowhall and a brief detour will take you to the football ground and then in a couple of minutes, you're back on the trail.
  17. Are you looking for a team of runners for the ENTIRE route? Several people capable of running two 30 and one 17 miles over three consecutive days! That's a HUGE ask. And think of when this is. April is coming off the worst months to train and get THAT fit. That's dragging yourself out in cold, wet, miserable conditions for several months. Also, you'll be looking for good/reasonable weather conditions for three consecutive days in April. It's entirely possible you'll get heavy rain, fog or, worst of all, a strong westerly wind while you're running west. I once supported a duo doing the Leeds-Liverpool canal FROM Leeds and even with a couple of us riding mountain bikes in front of the runners to provide what shelter we could, they had to abandon due to the severity of the westerly wind having them on their chinstraps after about nine miles. I'm not trying to put you off, just pointing out the myriad pitfalls you need to be aware of. And have you considered doing this relay-style? Ask the mayor of Sheffield to sign a form which you will deliver to his counterpart in Liverpool (they always love this). Roll it up and slide it into a runners' baton and hand it over to the next runner who'll cover ten to twelve miles? We've done this on the Welsh Castles a couple of times and it was great. It'll take some planning and logistics but you'll get more volunteers as you're not asking them to run seventy six miles over three days. You'll also get people who live near to a particular section of the route who'll be happy to be part of the whole team and get to carry the baton for the section he/she's responsible for. Just a suggestion, that. As for me, injuries permitting, I'll do whatever i can and will be happy to bring my distance knowledge. I can do the whole lot by bike as support/navigation or one whole day's run if you're going with that plan.

  19. What you want is the Trans Pennine route http://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/ which happens to run from Southport to Barnsley but the Sheffield to Liverpool section is particularly....northern, therefore good. It's predominantly off the main roads. It's mainly tarmac and i rode it last year and can state it is the best non-driving route between the two cities you can get. If you go for car support, there are many intersections with roads you can arrange to meet but really, on a stroll like this, you want to stay off the main roads which in some cases will be pavement-free and potentially dangerous, especially if it's a big group. That's why my recommendation os for the above route. But I'm happy to get involved in this. What you need really, using the Bob Graham Round logic, is to make you the focus on hitting a home run. Anyone else supporting you is there for just that; to support you. That means they should navigate - accurately - and provide sustenance and company en-route. If they are much slower than you, they need to park their egos and ask if it's their admirable keenness outstripping their actual ability. If anyone's much faster than you, then they have to cool their jets and help by opening gates and checking the route ahead for correct directions where it diverges. I've seen loads of relay runners get lost and go miles off route in situations like this so you need to plan accordingly.

  21. Can we wait to see if he's actually, you know, convicted? How many people followed the guff newspapers were reporting about two people recently who were arrested for murder, convicted in the press and condemned from the rooftops only to be found guilty of being on the wrong side of colossal police stupidity? And that scenario is not unknown to the subject of this website, is it?
  22. The dullest one I ever read was utter bilge and revealed absolutely nothing. Sad it was Kenny's first! Far and away the best one was Carragher's. I stay away from stuff like this but read this one on the beach and thought it was absolutely superb. His strength, determination, intelligence and character come through and his passion for the city and his club brings a lump to the throat. I told him this myself and got a nice little reward-ette for my troubles, which was nice.

  24. Rabid red as I am, I would have given Everton the free kick in the Rodwell/Suarez incident yesterday. Suarez arrived late at the scene and no-one could have complained if the ref gave it the Blues' way in that one. But then we've all had the benefit of numerous TV slow-mo replays from all sorts of angles which the red didn't have. Oh, and if I'd have been Rodwell, I'd have decked Charlie for forcibly ushering him off. Might as well shag the sheep if you're going to be hanged for robbing it.
  25. 'What do we want?' 'I don't know' 'When do we want it?' 'Now.' Funniest chant of the day. Pisspoor football all round and we can thank a refereeing mistake for gifting us the game rather than one costing us some entitlement. They tend to even themselves out during a season though.
