The key thing for me now is not even the cheating, it’s the cover ups and lack of cooperation. The other Premier League clubs should not accept a member that acts in such bad faith. I don’t think you can completely ignore a whole season, but I think we can give him a bit of leeway yeah. But if he doesn’t start performing then he does need to be dropped. It feels like trying to get the best out of Wirtz is a project in itself. It can’t be. The transfer fee is sunk now. If we really do think he’s going to be great then ok, keep giving him time … but I’m not seeing any evidence that he will be. The good news is I am often wrong about footballers.
