Agreed. No one wants this to turn into a vicious point of contention versus our blue brethren but he’s ploughed through hundreds of Liverpool supporters shouting “f***ing pricks” and we are supposed not to think his allegiance is relevant.

Keane was so long ago, I don’t know any more whether it was right or wrong. I suspect the fact that Spurs were prepared to give us most of our money back for a player who just wasn’t fitting in, was too good to refuse. Having said that, if he’d stayed and got us just a few more points then we’d have won the league, which would have been well worth any more financial loss.

Well either it’s fitness, coaching, confidence, or he’s turned crap overnight at 26 years old.

He’s had a summer of stress and no proper training, then come into a club that’s got a weird atmosphere, then played alongside a whole bunch of players who are also out of form. Strikers thrive on confidence and it’s not surprising he doesn’t have that. It’s not yet the moment to judge him.

In your preferred summer, we spend 80m on a winger, of which say 30m comes from buying a 50m striker instead of Ekitike and 50m comes from what, buying someone cheaper than Isak?

Yeah this seems right to me. I reckon Hughes thought Ekiteke could play across the front three, and Slot didn’t agree.

We went into the season with four centre backs. Whether or not they were all good enough is a different question. But surely by your reasoning, you don’t need more than two top class centre halfs.

I have no idea whether such players were available at those prices who would have been good enough, but I’ll take your word for it.

I think we needed both, and we’d be unhappy missing out on either. I appreciate that you’re saying if we could only have one or the other then we should have got the left winger. I’m saying, in a universe where we made that decision, we’d still be unhappy. Maybe not you, I don’t know.
