Wasn't Chang speaking to Journalists too about Jenkins, and he even knew who he was right? Something he uncovered in his background checks (if they really took place) coupled with the accuracy of the information he was spreading, must have said to Chang that he was worth following up on. Twitter IS too big and uncontrollable, but if the club genuinely felt/had evidence that this particular guy was getting info from a source inside the club that was leaking info that they had no control over then they needed to investigate. It is perhaps a little too much however, to go and meet the guy in person as oppose to a phonecall/email (as I think that sets a dangerous precedent, as you say, they cannot follow up on everyone on Twitter) This whole affair does show up Chang to be a little out of his depths, he is no Malcolm Tucker that's for sure.
Some context here please! Twitter is a powerful broadcast medium, much like some blogs and podcasts who can have enormous reach, just look at how Twitter reacted during the Suarez affair??? Jenkins had tens of thousands of followers, including Journalists, all of whom genuinely did not know it was a parody account. It is very hard to distinguish fake from genuine... It might not be traditional media, but it is the way things are steadily going. Edit. Will stop using the word Parody, And Swipe, I agree with what you are saying upto a point, in that Chang should be focusing on other more important thing. I just don't think that you can just ignore someone because they are on twitter!
Wasn't the whole point of the meet (allegedly) was to investigate if there was a mole within the club feeding Jenkins with information? At the time of the meeting Jenkins had not admitted that the account was a parody, and whilst amusing in tone, he was tweeting accurate information that the club/Chang thought was coming from within. A little heavy handed in execution maybe; the background checks (if true!) and even the meeting! (not the unsubstantiated threats) but the situation warranted investigation. If the club genuinely thought they had a leak, that was compromising the efficiency of the clubs business, then they absolutely have a duty to check it out.
The house was almost full when Cameron read his statement/issued his apology. Not sure why they did not hang around for PMs questions on it afterwards.
The Reds team in full is: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Downing, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Shelvey, Suarez, Morgan. Subs: Jones, Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Coates, Borini, Sterling. Goodbye Andy Carroll
It does seem a little odd that after all that secrecy for days and days, they would say to their arguably most controversial candidate "let's take in some air". Hardly like John Henry isn't known in those parts, he was owner of the Florida Marlins afterall. If they really wanted to keep this process hidden then they have screwed it right up. It's either 1. A fake 2. Martinez is getting the job, and they don't care who knows
Not in this case perhaps. You're only working on that principle because that is what you know of. What if the two men agree on what is to be done, then the first team manger puts things into motion with the 1st team and the DoF goes off and implements it across the rest of the club, gets the coaches to buy into it etc, those who don't can be replaced with those that do. I just don't see it being hard and fast rule that the manager has to implement a philosophy upwards if you like and not a DoF downwards. If that man is LVG that is, we're screwed if it does end up being Dave Whelan. It's gonna be a fun ride, come with
But that's the concept in the broadest term isn't it? At the end of the day it doesn't Necessarily matter who coaches the first team as long as he knows the workings of the clubs system and philosophy and is media friendly etc etc. Barcelona have promoted from within to replace Guardiola. I take your point about a great manager being the one to really implement the philosophy, but you have to start somewhere. In this case FSG want to start with a DoF. I don't see why a DoF who is successfully able to implement such a system at LFC along with with a capable coach cannot work. I don't understand the people who say it won't work because "it's England and were different". Rubbish! it just needs to be done right, with the right people.
This John Barnes article can explain it better than I ever could. In summary it's about employing the same system across all levels at the club, and ensuring the coaches of these teams are implementing the 'philosophy'. You then develop and sign players who meet the standards you set and who fit the system. First team coaches can come and go but the system or philosophy remains consistent. It's the only structure (with LVG or someone of his calibre) I see where a Martinez/Rodgers type of appointment has any chance of acceptance and credibility.
Such an odd result, having played really well in almost all areas, totally toothless in attack though. Kompany has been a beast for them though, totally dominated their defence.
I think it just comes down to the fact his heart just isn't in it. He never wanted to move from Newcastle, was settling into the first team there, but was forced to a move in order to bring a large amount of money in.
