  1. Like a few other 'creative' players Houllier brought in they never quite seemed fit the system somehow. GH was desperate to amp up the team's attacking play but never made it. Litmanen was one of these attempts to make us more threatening. Unfortunately there was no plan on how to make it work with him and he was constantly pushed out of his favorite position as attacking mid. GH made a lot of great defensive signings, not so many attacking ones. Possible he was/is a bit of a lazy git as well, but I wouldn't know about that. Also he was already aging a bit when we got him. 5 years sooner it would probably been a superb signing.
  2. Not hyped? Does 'The new Zidane' not ring a bell?! Diomede was hyped to a lesser extent, but he did come with a world cup winner-tag. I think his hype/actual performance ration is actually lower than Bruno's. As for Vignal, well.. there was i kinda shortage of defenders i thought.
  3. Hyped yes, but he also delivered to some extent during his two years at the club. 28 goals in 63 games is not bad. I'd keep Cisse, and Morientes is attack. I'm still keen on adding Anelka to the side but that may leave Cisse playing out of position again Kirkland Babb Ziege Traore Vignal (last two is sort of in lack of better (or is that worse?) options) Cheyrou Diomede Gonzalez Litmanen Cisse Fernando I Dundee Anelka Kennedy Diouf Le Tallec And who the hell put Hysen in there?!
  4. If felt more comfortable with Sander than Jamo. Both had their share of blunders, Westerveld was more comfortable handling the ball with his feet and I don't think he was as bad as James when dealing with crosses. I do admit it's difficult to agree one decent keeper to another. I tend to arrange keepers into World Class > Good > Not very good and below. As long as we have a wold class keep as we do now, who is also very young i cannot complain. Would not want to swap Reina with Buffon for instance. Anyway, should not bash James on his birthday edit: oh and I used to love how Westerveld would have shot at goal from 90 yards
  5. Why don't we just submit 1-10 scores to each player every game. The most fair system i reckon...
  6. I think it is at least fair to say he was the worst 1st choice keeper we've had is the last three decades. Including Ray, Brucie, Westerveld, Dudek, Reina, Carson and Kirkland (last one might be questionable).
  7. I would also like to add the view that those kids that do take on football these days seems to take it more seriously. Parents and coaches seem to groom the kids to become professional football players even from a very young age something which I think is decremental for the development of youngsters. A lot of the spirit is lost along the way and some of the kids get tired of the game long before they become senior players. Also we pride ourselves with this academy of ours. When the truth is the more 'advanced' this academy has become over the past decade or so the fewer players seems to make it into our first team. Is taking young players from all over Europe and elsewhere far away from their home, parents, buddies, habits and culture really that positive for their development? Makes me sad to see when big clubs including our own are poaching 14-15 years olds from across the continent. The kids themselves and their over committed dads say it's good for their development and that they have better opportunities at big clubs. I think that's absolute b******s. It is not at that age, in fact I suspect it's much better for them to stay at their own clubs for another three or four years. Note that more often than not the young players I'm talking about are already at relatively big clubs in their respective countries and to say that Liverpool would be a much better place for them is simply not true. If FIFA would put their foot down on teenage transfers (say up to 17 yrs) I would not argue against it.
  8. All the seeded teams must surely be pre-qualified for the 3rd round? Think we could be drawn with anyone who comes off the 2nd round plus a few others
  9. Elfsborg has just scored. Would love to see the reds play in Sweden myself...
  10. No honorary mention for Nicky Anelka?
  11. Aye, Pennant I have feeling can become a very useful player. I'm more worried about Kewell actually. No idea what his form is, besides we have Gerrard as decent cover on RM besides Pennant. Left side is more doubtful, lets hope YB and Kewell can pull it together.
  12. Consistency will do it for me. Last time we played virtually the same game-style every match was in 01-02 when we weren't too far from pulling it off. Then we relied a lot on our strong defense. Now hopefully we can shift the play further up field and blast all teams with our attacking play. At one point last season when we got out of our bad start I thought we played glimmering football. A sort of turbo version of the old pass n' move. We had the opposition chasing us further and further back with our defenders suddenly joining in and completely overloading their defensive set-up. Loved to see that. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

  14. Hence my idea with local sides is so great. Though taken into account... The grass will get some beating from summer friendlies.
  15. But that would mean that the damand for the big games would so high that people may resort to buying a ST just to be guaranteed a seat for those games and maybe sell their allocation for the 'lesser' games, no?
  16. No, not at all. I was merely asking. If we in fact had 60000 people willing to a buy a ST plus the ones that already have one then our new stadium, even with the 80k or so capacity, would already be too small. We would need a Camp Nou sized stadium instead.
  17. Because the waiting list is so long people would apply to get a ST in the future but are not prepared to buy one a the moment. Perhaps they cannot afford one immediately or live too far from Anfield at the present to fully take advantage of a ST?
  18. But how many of these 60000 really want a ST if they were given the opportunity to buy one? edit: not implying we still don't have a big f***ing waiting list that is

  20. As a few people have mention, that big club tourney might be expensive to pull off. How about a Merseyside championship tournament? With the likes of LFC, EFC, TRFC, Marine, Southport etc.
  21. Surprised everyone seem to take Kewell for granted in the starting XI. Don't know how he did in the summer internationals personally but for Liverpool he mostly did a few decent subs by the end of last season. Not enough to prove he is still the player he was 3 years ago. I could see any of Riise, Babel or Benayoun play LM myself.
