  4. Another moment of infuriating Gray commentary from that game, for me, was when he was talking about Sissoko. Momo was caught in the plums (i think. he was rolling around for a while afterwards anyhow) and Gray says "For a player who is supposed to be the new Vieira, that is a very un-Vieira like thing to be doing"

He was the 'keeper. Talk about parking a bus infront of the goal.......

    Xabi Alonso

Neville Southall of course and Thomas Brolin was no slim chicken during his time at leeds, however no one can compare to William "Fatty" Foulkes. He played at around the turn of the century, and also made his way into the England team. What a strange time eh.

  20. Clyde are playing very well, the scommentator mentioned that most of them were 20/21 the volley for the second goal was taken very well indeed, controlled it brilliantly
  21. I'm not the biggest fan of either of the two players in question but I am in agreement with the original post. Pongolle is better than Cisse, not potentially, but at this present time. Pongolle is a lot more beneficial for the team when he plays, he?s a clever little player compared to Cisse who exudes a high level of brainlessness a lot of the time. This is one of the fundamental and most significant differences between the two players. Cisse does try to play for the team but most of the time it appears that he is simply too thick to understand the tactics that Rafa is trying to instil into the team. Part of the reason he is unable to adapt to Rafa?s tactics is due to conditioning at Auxerre. At Auxerre Cisse was the main man. He was their best player and the tactics that were in use were centred on and around Cisse. He is now struggling because there is clearly a more team orientated ethic in use at Rafa?s Liverpool, he?s got to play for the team and he?s not use to doing this, he doesn?t seem to be able to get his head round the little intricacies that are needed to put personal needs to one side and become a top striker in England. Pongolle can take on a man better than Cisse. The Cisse method of kicking the ball past the defender and running in a straight line to retrieve it may have worked in France but I think the inability that he has to weave his way around players unlike the more ?fluid-like? Pongolle is always going to be a disadvantage. Cisse?s touch is, at times, mournful, he shows this time and time again. The man cannot consistently control a ball. Pongolle?s touch is superior to that of Djibril?s. I also feel that Pongolle is a better finisher than the Cisse. On occasion?s Cisse has shown that he can delicately place the ball, but a lot of the time he reverts to plainly t***ting the ball as hard as he can. Pongolle has a lot more ingenuity surrounding his finishing. Whether it is a lob from out side the box, a smart finish drilled home from within the area or even a header. Pongolle has plenty of footballing talent, and much more than Cisse. This is because Cisse isn?t a footballer; the man?s an athlete, and a very good athlete. He falls into the category of player?s side because they are fast, fit and strong alongside the likes of another Houllier signing, Salif Diao. It seems that he was signed as much for his athleticism as he was for his potential footballing skill, and its starting to become all too clear.

  24. I agree with your surrounding the sheer madness of the constant throwing of Fowlers hat into the ring of useful players to sign year on year. As you say there isn't a lot more to say about the Fowler saga that hasn't already been said before, but i'm going to have my twopence worth anyhows. From my point of view, and i feel it to be a very accurate view, Fowler has been s*** for some time, he's a waster, and wouldn't want to put the effort in that is required to play for Liverpool. He didn't 5 (or so) years ago and he wouldn't now. Fowler for a few seasons was an excellent all round talent, he was exciting, prolific, and to coin a phrase has the world at his feet. He was in no doubt a fantastic player, an idol at the time to thousands and an inspiration to many. The problem is that even now people only remember the good times and hold him in the same regard as they did in the mid nineties as an exciting goalscorer. He clearly isn't now, and hasn't been for some time. Signing him this year, last year or the year before, although rallying certain fans, would have done little else for the club. He was a local hero and this is the reason so many of the fans allied and continue to ally with him. I remember coming back from a Barcelona home game a couple of years ago, i think it was in the UEFA cup, it was the time when the Rivaldo inspired Barcelona were applauded off the pitch, they were a cracking team and Rivaldo was at the heart of everything for him. In the chippy on the way home a fella got talking to us and summed up for me many peoples blinkered view on Fowler, saying that he would never swap the Fowler of around '01 for the worlds best player at the time. I think Owen is a different case however. I understand the reasons behind people not wanting to sign him, i understand people being angered by the manner of his departure, but unlike Fowler, Owen still could offer a lot to the club. Personally I would not care one way or another if Owen ever signs for us again, if he does then great, i think he has the ability to improve the current strike force he is a great pro and would give his all and work his balls off for Rafa, but if he doesn't its not the end of the world. Fowler is looking to be an unrealistic target, and rightly so. But Owen, is a possible target. He could very well play for us again, and whenever its possible that a former legend may return to the club, people who are fans of his will always be calling for his return, whether its a viable option or not Posts merged: Spot on on both issues.
