It looked like Nonda was going to make contact with the cross, and neither Carra nor Finnan was within yards of him. What's Reina supposed to do? Stand on his goal line? What would people have said if Nonda makes contact and sticks it in the bottom corner... what's Pepe doing on his goal line?!? He has to come out to try and narrow the angle. He doesn't have time to change his mind or back-track.

I think that's a bit harsh. Sami backs off the winger (why?). Finnan and Carra completely fail to deal with a routine cross into the box. Pepe has to react to the first striker who was within inches of making contact - which he did by closing him down. I don't think that was 'dreadful positioning'. Not Pepe Reina's fault that one.

Another piece of McLaren tactical genius - leave your two fastest strikers on the bench when playing a tough away fixture with a defensive line-up.

Rafa uses 352 to great effect once or twice a season. It requires some tactical flexibility on the part of your defenders though, so England probably shouldn't bother while Terry is the 'undroppable captain' of the side.

I was less than impressed by the performance of the 'captain' in defense. 'Cat on a hot tin roof' sums it up I think. I understand that the reason why he was playing the middle of the back 3 was because he was looking even worse on the left! Ferdinand should have been in the middle, with Terry left and Carra right. Or Terry dropped if can't hack a back 3. If you're going to play 352 then play wingers, not fullbacks. OK - maybe Cole on one side but Wright-Phillips on the other. I do have to feel a bit sorry for McLaren, after all he was missing J. Cole, Hargreaves, Gerrard, Lennon (which would probably be my pick for a 4 man England midfield) and Owen as well. Which no-one seems to be mentioning. It does show the lack of depth in the England squad though.

King is injured, Carra is replacing him Downing (I just typed Wilcox ) will be dropped, and Cole and Neville will be wing backs (I expect). With Wright-Phillips to come on for Neville if the game needs chasing. It will be interesting to see how they go with a 352, I've been saying for years that England's strengths are at centre back and centre mid, so play the system that allows you have as many of each as you can on the pitch!

Another idea. If a player wants to go and play (work) for someone other than their normal employer then the player himself should be paying for any insurance in case he gets injured. If he doesn't want to pay for the insurance then he doesn't get to play.

He's number 2 in my list. I guess his time as manager has coloured people perceptions as to what a magnificent player he actually was.

Sami was always going to play the 'aerial bombardment' games like Bolton away (and Everton away). The only question is who do you choose to play with him.
