McLaren has got to take a massive slice of responsibility for the whole tacticul balls up that has surrounded England for so long. Just goes to show how inflated the market is when you want to buy an English player. The Alonso comparison is a good one as both of their careers were at a similar stage when getting their big moves. Alonso played a bit part role in Euro 2004 as has Carrick in this WC - both impressing when given the chance. Both were influential in getting their respective teams into Europe, both around the same age.......except Carrick costs twice as much for half the talent!
