    Raheem Sterling

Haha. It's just frustrating to think that any mentality of throwing the towel in might exist. I know we don't play the games but the match going fans have a part to play, even off the field. We need to generate positivity and motivation, not defeatism.
  2. I'm going more generic than specific players as such, the point being that operating a policy of basically never signing senior/established players isn't going to yield success. I don't think any team in the history of English football has won the title without some kind of senior figures, stalwarts and the like. Yet FSG's master plan bizarrely seems to include never signing any.
  3. I was thinking about the age thing actually. I'm too lazy to do this but it'd be interesting to see a list of all our signings under FSG and their respective ages. I'm struggling to think of many beyond an upper age limit of 26/27 at the most.

We've got no chance then, may as well forfeit our matches... It's mental, we bemoan the club, owners etc for mistakes and yet as supporters, we've got a s***e mentality ourselves. No wonder we fail to achieve. I hope the players/management have a bit more balls than that kind of defeatist attitude. Imagine we go out at West Brom, half arsed, get beat and then the mancs lose at Everton or City draw with Villa. How will we feel then? Fecking stupid is how. Our job is to win our 6 games or as many as possible and see where it takes us. The idea that City/United drop 5/6 points isn't pie in the sky.

If the Mancs draw at Everton (4 wins in their last 5, Everton) & we win our game in hand (plus West Brom), we're 3 points behind the mancs...with them still to go to Palace and play Arsenal. And we're writing it all off already?
  6. Nobody can question a policy that values 'being clever' but how clever is it to virtually write off any possible signing on the basis that they're over a certain age? Sounds ludicrous to me.
  7. There's loads of angles re Rafa, not going through the ins and outs of it. But regarding Ayre & Rafa never coming back under Ayre - loads of noises been made in recent months that Ayre is off in the summer, got a job with one of the sponsors allegedly. Could be tripe but if it's true, perhaps changes the landscape a little with regards to Rafa.
  8. The Championship has been brilliant this season. 2 games left and nobody has a scooby who's getting promoted.
  9. Gerrard defo starting at Wembley.
  10. Why aren't Chelsea battering the Mancs for f***s sake?
  11. A picnic on the ground along Empire Way? You may well get people lobbing spare change at you. If you take a hat and a dog, it could become quite profitable.
  12. I still don't get how it's possible (or even legal) for a 10 year old or under to go to a game alone, as would be theoretically allowed, if an under 10 ticket can be sold without needing an adult ticket to be bought along with it.
  13. Sorry, what? A £10 ticket? What's that about then?
  14. I was hoping these bumps to the thread were related to Sampdoria making a bid.
  15. 1) depends how good you are 2) a varied range of pub good 3) no but they have had a BBQ going when I've been before 4) yes 5) f*** knows See you there
  16. I said we should do everything we can. Paying him £200k pw and dealing with the knock-on effect isn't something we can do.
  17. What's wrong with The Torch? It's not utopia but it's decent enough.
  18. You had one about 3 hours ago. Before you asked. And ironically, in that very same post of mine that you've selectively quoted from.
  19. Surely stands to reason that the best paid players list should generally consist of the club's top players. Which player has performed every week?
  20. Is RS one of our best players Earl?
  21. If Sterling is sold, how much would the fee need to be for people to be happy or ok with him going?
  22. Of course we should be doing everything we can to keep Sterling and any other quality player. Naturally there's always hype but Sterling is already a very exciting player and one of the few 'go to' guys we have. He's a player who makes a difference in games, there's inconsistency but that's the case with most players, especially younger ones. He's already very good and has the potential to be world class. We need to ask ourselves whether we actually do aspire to be a top club or whether it's all talk. That doesn't mean pay everyone insane wages but that's the point, the idea that £150k is insane wages, is out of context with the game. FWIW I don't think Sterling is 'worth' £150k, I'd say something like £100k-£125k is about right but sometimes you pay a bit more for quality. I'm not saying we go to £200k. There's a limit of course. The very fact that we look at £150k and almost faint is a worry because it's not characteristic of a top club. I don't believe for a second that £150k is obscene in the context of high end PL football and neither do I think it'd jeopardise our finances, nor that everyone else will want the same or demand a move. A lot of these scenarios are worst-case and a bit OTT in my view.
  23. Mediocre form, or mediocre by the standards he's set? I think I've fallen off the planet and into some very strange world if people genuinely don't think Sterling is one of our best players! I strongly suspect that those who don't, would have a different view if he'd signed a new deal and maybe hadn't been on the shisha/laughing gas. It's easy to undervalue a player when we think he might be off. Makes us feel better.
  24. Me and all the other fans across about 6 different forums who currently have him as player of the season!
  25. He's not behind Lucas, Henderson, Sakho or Mignolet. He's not behind Gerrard or Sturridge either, if you're talking contributions this season. The only player we have who could genuinely claim to have contributed as much or more this season, is Coutinho.
