Ok I will take this in sections, regarding your opening point here I disagree I see defending and scoring goals as equally important. It is obviously better to win 1:0 than to lose 2:1 the difference here is not in the amount of goals that you have scored but in the amount of goals you have prevented the opposition from scoring. That point makes no sense at all. Being tactically astute and neutralising the opposition is paramount in football. There is a balance to be struck between scoring and preventing the other team from scoring they are two sides of the same coin. You will not win the league if you draw too many games so the emphasis for the top clubs is on winning already. A draw is already considered two points dropped for the top teams while they are the ones that have the responsibility to break down the teams below them. Why do you think that Watford coming to Anfield and getting a 0:0 draw is only worthy of the same amount of points had they lost the game 3:0. Sorry but I see no value in this. Regarding the point about how internet fora would have dealt with the 3 points for a win or the back pass rule then the reaction would probably have been dismissive I can see however that a case could be made for both then and now. The idea that a 0:0 draw is as worth as a 3:0 loss makes no sense now.
