There is nothing concrete to suggest we’re actually in for him this time around. The stories suggest his Dad, who is also his agent, has held meetings with Dortmund and Spurs. So it could be he’s only turning down a fictional move to us. The most recent briefing from only a few days ago, was he wants to stay in Germany and may not leave Leverkusen even if they had missed out on the Champions League. Again he may have different reasons for that but as things stand he only has a year left on his contract after this summer. So unless he signs a new deal he can hold off for a lucrative Bosman. DanM is right about the contract, per the public details a release fee of €25m would have kicked in had they not qualified for the Champions League. There was also one clickbait headline the other day though suggesting a good reason why he may not fancy a move to Liverpool - he wouldn’t get his game. That was also the reason he didn’t move two summers ago... at which point we went for Salah instead.
