I've seen about half a dozen videos today of really earnest middle aged men with sombre music behind them going on about how this kid leaving them is the perfect encapsulation of the evils of the modern game. These pricks have spent the last 40 years pillaging every decent player in the academies of smaller clubs and now they can't handle it that they're not the apex predator anymore.

He's hardly "refusing to get on the ball". He's moving and getting into space, the midfield just isn't working. We're not getting him or Wirtz on the ball enough. The 3 CMs who've started so far just aren't moving the ball well enough or fast enough

I think we need to use this game to find some potential solutions to our problems as opposed to just playing all the kids and getting it over and done with. We've no backup 9, 10, RB or RW and no 6. We need to find ways to sort that soon or the season could fall apart

The problem with how it operates in England as opposed to other European leagues is the lack of accountability. Hughes was here for nearly three years and I don't think I ever heard his voice. In other countries they're much more public facing and have to account for their decisions. I think Hughes has done the big flashy things that impress other DOFs well (for the most part) but he's completely fluffed the boring admin stuff like contract renewals and squad management

If you believe the journalists who get briefed then we didn't go for Alonso because it would involve too much of a change in style but the irony is the squad we had in the summer was more suited to 3-4-3 than 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Our full backs look more like wing backs, Wirtz looks like he needs he found it easier to find space in that inside left spot that Xabi has in his formation than the ten, Szoboslai looks more suited to playing as the inside right than as an 8 or out and out 10

This is the most frustrating thing about this summer, for all the huge numbers being thrown around there has also been some pockets of real value too.

Our season rests on Tsimikas, Nyoni, McConnell, Endo, Ngumoha, Chiesa, Danns etc being able to offer us legitimate contributions when only Rio and Trey have ever shown any sign of being able to do that.
