I think it is almost impossible to compare. Different eras, and different defenders in front. My personal impression would be a three way tie between Clem, Grobbelaar and Pepe. I think Clem read the game the best and was just about the best for positioning. Grobbelaar was the most athletic/gymnastic and could therefore 'recover' the best, and Reina has the best reactions I've ever seen, along with the penalties thing obviously. If stats say it's Pepe>Clem>Grob, then I don't think I'd argue too much. Never saw Lawrence et-al, and James, Dudek etc. are a league or so below.

It'd be funny if the club did a free hand-out, or produce a special April replacement addendum, for 1/12th the cost of the full calendar. A bit small time, but funny.

Depending on his wages, he could buy himself out of his contract for £0.5 - 1 mill. Pity he's not allowed to do that mid season!

No idea. Got them from fairly definitive posts... "Liverpool had three bids, the latest of £6.8million on Monday afternoon, rejected by Pool chairman Karl Oyston" (I believe this came from some Blackpool website, or newspaper, it's in the Adam thread) 6.5 was from 'arry 'imsel, so God knows.
-
Sorry for the delay... turned down 6.8 from us, accepted 6.5 from Spurs..
-
Believe so - headline figures anyway, but it wasn't a whole load different, and it maybe more up front etc.
-
Don't think that's true. I reckon Oyston just got greedy, and then when we went so big on Carroll, got even greedier. He thought we'd keep coming back with bigger and bigger offers. Only when the window was closing in his face did he realise that we weren't. And having already got in Adam's replacement(s), desperately accepted less money from 'arry than he'd already rejected from us. Hope he can't afford the wage bill now, although I doubt Adam is on that much.

Wish I could read. It does lead to the question, why 2 international fans? How are they diviing up the rest of the world?

16 categories, 17 members, unless Anfield/Breckfield is two.

Played basketball with him in local leagues etc. He was always pretty non-commital over red/blue (though he was already on Tranmere's books so understandable). Younger brother was a red though.

Nigel Adkins may help us with Oxlade-Chamberlain here. Pretty sure he is/was a Liverpool supporter. Went to the same school as me on the Wirral, and played for Tranmere. Long time ago though.

You wanna know how to get an LMA award? They pull a knife, you turn the other cheek. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you keep quiet and put a tin lid on it. That's the Hodgson way! And that's how you get popular with the FA. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?
-
Try not. Do or do not, there is no try... ... actually, to expect to do, wildly optimistic people are. Victories, or even draws, on planets far far away, utopia would be.

"If you are first you are first. If you are second, it would probably have been a grave injustice to those other brave teams battling to be first to have sought to prevail. At least we weren't embarrassed. I'm actually very proud of the way we defended..."

Intelligent design has been fine for my last 35 years in science. I'd have to fight my corner if I come up with anything progressive?

Shouldn't have been (to the extent it was) though. It was a derby even if not in anger. Everton (kids+geriatrics) were rubbish!

I thought Spud played well with both in the first half. Like the look of Shelvey in the second
-
I'm defending Roy, but I reckon that we may have done better tonight if Rafa was still here, but he isn't. I also think/hope that being more adventurous will get us more points overall (although we may lose more as well!)
-
He's never played as the number 10 though has he? I'm getting desperate, 'cos I've always slagged Cole off as lightweight (and yet I cheered when we got him )
-
I think the theory is that Cole/whoever scores more than we lose from Gerrard. When we played with some patience, Gerrard still ended up in the positions to score, and nearly did.
-
It's easy to agree with you when we've just been stuffed, particularly when I think it was vital to get a good start to the season.. but... IF we can control the ball better, like we did at times in the second half, we could get even more out of Gerrard, 'cos I do think we miss his tracking back and inspirational tackling when he's further up field. Especially if we're losing Masch. Going to be f**king hard in the mean time though.
-
Those of you saying Roy didn't do anything to change it, I think he did. I thought it was obvious that he'd got them (part. Gerrard) to be more patient, with more shorter passes, fewer Hollywood balls, and attacking more as a team. We had far better opportunities in the second half. Having said that, I'd rather we'd play 4-2-3-1/4-5-1/4-3-3 with Gerrard behind Torres/Ngog/New striker, but Roy has decided to play him in the middle, and he'll need to relearn the position.

I wish forums had existed when Bob Paisley was appointed, we could compare reactions then and now. I think Roy is pretty much the identikit of my ideal manager of Liverpool Football Club. I just hope that he can tick the "12 or so trophies in 9 years" box. I also think we need to cut some of the lesser players a bit of slack for a while. I think it's unlikely the way Roy interacts with them will be the same as Rafa. His approach may get more out of some. The converse may also be true though as well. Good luck Roy and all the lads
