Riise for 5m is a start. One thing that I respect about Rafa is that he refuses to sanction cut price deals when selling players - for too long we sold players way too cheaply while United got 5m plus for likes of Richardson

No disrespect to Tim but "estimated 10m" for Mascherano and "reported 9m" for Sissoko numbers plucked from the air doesn't form basis for analysis of anything my view is that new owners allowed purchase of two world class players in masch and torres within 6 months that has not happened for a long time at this club i would like to see them out as their relationship has broken down and is unworkable and dic promise untold wealth to support us but to date they have backed rafa financially -
i assume that if alonso goes it means barry deal is done hate to see us sell xabi and then barry deal falls through does this mean juve will have a xabi/momo midfield

Is this a hughes signing or an owner signing? would we be better off with the thai guy or the current owners?

players are fitter, game is played at higher pace english teams success in europe last few seasons is partly due to ability to play at half yard/yard faster tempo interesting that average centre midfielder player runs twice as far and not sure how faster (Rafa mentioned this during year at some point) that 15 years ago. Football has become more a game for big strong athletic types, excpet for the exceptional talent a lot of small players just don't make it now because of their size juventus were on to this ten years ago when they started "supplementing" their players

united have become a feeder club for madrid and that must hurt though united come to buy somebody now and everybody knows they have 80m or whatever from ronaldo so prices go up by 20%. wonder if they will offer us 60m for torres? -
crazy decision. would be like if a regular joe worker was sacked by his employer for a drugs offence and they then sued him unless they prepaid his contract or this was a signing on fee then can't see how they came to this decision transfer value is irrelevant in this context

The Liverpool Way TM is not slating a player before he plays one game for us. After a game or two we can all slate him. Looks like we are about to again break our record for a defender next week. its not all bad we'll get barry, alonso will go and we'll get some other player in 15 to 20m bracket if its villa then its not a bad summer -

Who is bringing a "Sign Big Names" banner on Sunday? -
i think we're treading water signing players like muntari, milner we have a squad and need to be bringing in first choice players our transfer policy of adding three or four average players and shipping three or four average players out doesn't improve us a player like torres improves us spend the transfer budget on one world class player is what we need to do and not blow it on three or four pennant, benayoun type players who don't bring us to next level

defence looks solid, if dossena is half as good as he is rated, we will have skrtel, agger, dossena, carra and degen/arbeloa. reina in goals. for me we need to add some quality to complement torres. i think babel will develop this season. a top quality proven attacking player would do for me in the transfer window but for that you are talking 15m to 20m type money. i'd prefer that to three average players

makes sense to sell first and then buy get a better price when selling

richard dunne - would we be interested in him? damien duff has put his house up for sale in newcastle probably moving to the house he bought in liverpool four years ago

how can real madrid afford the kind of money being talked about - 50m to 70m transfer fee and 80m five year contract plus the wage inflation for the rest of the madrid players if they pay ronaldo that kind of money football is about to eat itself i think unless uefa bring in some kind of squad salary cap -
"life limited children" Is it not PC now to say "dying children"?

would you sell torres for essien carvahlo drogba joe cole

chelsea are set to break the world transfer record and test man united's resolve with a 60m bid for christiano ronaldo. ronaldo is unsettled in manchester and his new girlfriend is keen to live in london. with alex ferguson indicating he is leaving old trafford ronaldo sees his future away from the club this sports journalist job is easy

two managers in less than 12 months will be plenty who will be interested because of the money but its real madridesque in terms of how not to run a club

don't like him but he does what all top managers do talks out of both sides of his mouth and uses the media rafa has started doing it this season as well - drogba comments most recent example its not pretty and not the way sport should be played but its big business now and anything you can use to gain an advantage (plant a doubt in referee mind, warn of a club) is legitimate -
if anything i think that has been our downfall in transfers in recent years

going to move the franchise to dublin - play in a new 80k stadium
-
looks like terry said something rather than spitted but it was designed to provoke tevez probably can't speak a word of english so it was lost on him who else was left to take a penalty - if i'm manager and a player says "out of the question" i go to the next guy who else bottled it one minute of warm up is his fault - there was a running track around the stadium so no excuse for not being properly prepared
-
bit risky playing as a free agent "if you get injured you get nothing" Jerry Maguire

"and the appointment of the Executive Board which will run Liverpool Football Club when we gain a controlling interest." it could happen but odds are against it - difficult to organise something like this and bring it to fruition also would be concerned as to how fans owning and controlling club would be in practice especially with no tradition of it in this part of the world real madrid, barcelona don't strike me as best run clubs
