It's a bit of a lame answer but it really does depend on the day. I think ultimately in most situations him next to Xabi makes most sense. I think i prefer him playing just off a striker as opposed to RM but we don't have strikers who can make that work, or wingers actually -

one of his first goals this season was a header v wigan i think and he scored a blinder of a header for england u21s. I don't think you'd have it down as his #1 capability though

You making a case for saying Xabi isn't always part of our strongest line up? It's amazing how much better players get when they aren't there. I don't think that's necessarily true as he's always coming off the flank which leaves the opposition left side open if they switch it quickly. Gerrard and alonso can handle the vast majority of games. Against top top sides or when resting someone stick momo in

but he scored loads of goals. All the time he was shooting he should have been bringing the midfield into play. Benitez doesn't want strikers to score as it means that you know where the goals are going to come from. The way we play now the opposition don't even know if a goal is going to come at all. Keep em guessing.
