I think that’s it. Last World Cup it was Enzo DePaul and Macca grafting their arses off while Messi stood around and analysed, then dialled in and won games in moments. I guess just not conceding and having Messi is a great game plan for knockout football.

This is such an obvious thing to push. We moan about Madrid doing it to us but it’s life. If I was that Celta Vigo player that just went to palace for free but was told Liverpool want you too then I think he’d be a Liverpool player and not a palace player already. Maybe not the best player in the world but an experienced option until Bradley is back or Frimpong sorts out his injuries. We already have the superstars. We need a few up top but I think a bench full of hard running quality grafters would make a massive difference to the season ahead.

Totally. We needed a CB last season and we’ve know Konates situation all year. We’ve also known we’d need to replace Mo and Diaz yet here we are. Óscar Mingueza just went to Palace for free from Celta Vigo. A 27 year old right back that can play CB. He might have been good cover for us in numerous positions as a solid experienced backup. But we keep saying we are looking for players that raise the ceiling when it’s ok to bring in players that lift the floor as well.

I hear you. I mean I understand the tricky maths behind extending a player on a big final contract (like Mo) so you can sell them or risk them staying and their legs going or simply letting their contracts wind down. Some you win some you lose but we seem top heavy on players walking out the door. Jones could be up next and then Dom. All the power is currently with Dom who’s agent is probably telling him he’s in a perfect position right now as Liverpool probably can’t sell him due to the churn in the squad just now but next summer he’s totally in the same driving seat as Trent and Ibu and can call the shots. Ali will walk away as well. The Mo one is particularly weird. We did exactly what you’d expect a smart club to do. Give him an extension with a massive wage and then sell him this summer if needed. Instead we did the first bit ( costing a fortune) but then cancelled his contract so he could walk for free anyways. I’m sure it’s more complicated than I’m saying it is but all those fees add up. 20 million for Mo. 40 million for Jones. 10 for Robbo. Whatever the fees are could all be rolled into the next signing and take the edge off a price that seems too rich initially.

It’s crazy the amount of players that walk for free. I’m sure it happens at other clubs too and I just don’t notice but it seems built into how we operate.
