  1. That would not be a terrible scenario. We get a huge amount of cash and plenty of time to spend it. He leaves now, we'll effectively have swapped Torres for Suarez. By the time summer comes, I don't think those who plan budgets will be thinking 'ah, but he was supposed to add to the side. we'll make the budget Torres + whatever else we had planned'. If he leaves in the summer, the pressure will be on for them to spend that money and more to ensure that we come out a stronger outfit from it next season.
  2. I'd love it. A huge flop for them, whose only saving grace was a brace against us, then comes back to the premiership as an actual player for us. Come on over Forlan. Dudek would probably have broken without you.
  3. Forlan is the kind of stopgap that might just be good enough to merit it. Still can't quite wrap my head around it, but he is an astonishing player. Up there with the best strikers in the world.
  4. Make it 60 and I'd be kinda optimistic about it all, tbh. But in the summer, not now. I worry that if he goes now, Suarez will be seen as his replacement. He's not, here is here to strengthen us.
  5. Is now a bad time to mention that Suarez hasn't been having the best of seasons for Ajax?
  6. You were only wrong by a few days. Well done. That's puts you in remarkably unimpressive company.
  7. I think they mean to be ambitious. But they also need to realise they don't have as much time to wait for ideal circumstances as they think they do. There are limits to how long we can be out of the reckoning for CL spots and keep our top players. Or for that matter, attract them. Same with the CEO. They've been marvelously slow to appoint one. This is a very precarious period for the club and a certain urgency is required to steer us through it.
  8. Tsk tsk. Kenny has been out of the game too long. What he meant to say was "I don't think Fernando Torres will be the only striker they target, and I don't think that we will be the only club that will be worried their striker can be targeted. I am not naive to believe there won't be any danger and we will never lose a player like Torres, I understand these things can happen."
  9. The FA shouldn't be allowed to save face over it though. I pray for the day they throw this at one of the big clubs fielding a reserve string and losing because they have a big cup tie coming up or they won the league already. Someone needs to take it to court and show the FA that their completely arbitrary legislation has no place in modern football.
  10. In this time of potential duress and maybe possible anguish, let us spare a moment of thankful reflection for our beloved Roy Hodgson. For we have him to thank for whatever acceptance we may have gained of Torres' conceivably inevitable departure. He softened the blow months ago, by ripping off the band-aid and allowing us all to contemplate the strong likelihood of Torres leaving for one of our rivals. Thanks Roy. YNWA.
  11. he said he would offer his resignation 'but whether the Chairman accepts it was another matter"
  12. Different players who play in different positions and won't even be competing for the same spot. You do realise we're very think up front (and lack quality on the wings) and Meireles' form is not gonna change that?
  13. It is odd, but the club seems to be taking full advantage of it to get the best fee possible. They better get their man though, or they'll be labeled cheapskates rather than shrewd negotiators.
  14. Wouldn't blame him for preferring Chelsea over Real Madrid. It's not like they are our archrivals. That said, I think he'll stay. And he'll be happy too do so as well.
  15. If he does want to leave, it will be in the summer and I don't think it will be huge problem there provided we actually get a ginormous fee and don't do another Macherano. We can hold off the signing till we have replacements lined up. It will be a 'new liverpool' lining up for the first game moreso than a 'liverpool with no Torres anymore' we'd be looking at this window.
  16. Exactly, there's nothing to this for now. Even if Torres does want to leave there is no way the club would sell in this transfer window. I don't think it's true, but either way he'll be a liverpool player come february.
  17. Tbf, it is probably windup of the year. Just not the type you'd expect from the Guardian. To his credit, he actually managed to crash the redcafe for a while as it crashed when the caftards went into overdrive over his tweet. He just posted the following tweet: class WUM.
  18. though it is indeed endemic of a sad and cancerous trend in football, since it is Everton I'll forfeit my sadness in favour of glee and jubilation if it is true. Sure we'll miss the rivalry for a year or so as they languish in some lower division. But it will be made up by knowing the basturds are f*cking relegated. A year or two later they'll be back in the prem, but they will be terrible. None of the 'league position won't matter' nonsense can save them from the hidings they'll get when we meet. PLTBT.
  19. Hard to believe he is only a year older than Scholes who is still playing. He could have been a marvelous player if not for his injuries. Alonso good. You heard me. I said 'Alonso good'.
  20. We haven't been linked with any cetrebacks since Kenny came in. It's weird.
  21. Dirk has simply been below par since the world cup. Whether it is simply another of his 'oops I took 4 months off form, but it's ok cuz I still run a lot' periods further compounded by world cup tiredness, or he is simply finished, we should be looking for better for the starting 11.
  22. Sir, you go too far. Too far I say.
  23. 14m for adam? They are absolutely nuts.
  24. Indeed.
