I'm no architecht or civil engineer, but I always thought from a lay mans point of view we should look at redeveloping Anfield to be like Dortmund's (the Westfalenstadion). Looks a bit like Anfield on steroids and has a massive kop (can't think off hand of too many bigger). I know a couple of guys who have been to matches in it and say the atmosphere was great. Its 67,000 capacity and was expanded to this from around 50,000 for the World cup in Germany.

Agreed. I think we should go with this from the start:- ---------------------Reina--------------- Johnson---Carra--------Agger/Skrtel-----Agger/Aurelio --------------------Lucas---------------------- ---------Miereles--------Gerrard------------ ----Kuyt----------------------------Suarez--- -------------------Carroll---------------------- I know most might see starting Carroll as a risk. But I think due to the way he plays (he doesn't rely on raw pace, he's not a box to box player who needs high energy reserves, etc) he can give us a good hour and hopefully a lead which we can then sub him and colsolidate things. With other types of players coming back from a 2 month lay-off it might be better coming off the bench and gradually building up the match fitness. But I don't think Carrols strengths (which is physical strength and power) would be the type of thing to suffer much from this type of lay-off. Added to the fact he could well be up against 2 central defenders who are not first choice, I think it is an opportunity too good to miss not to play him in this game. Just as long it is a case that the injury has healed fully and it is only his match fitness that is the concern!

I think I must be one of the few who, although would love to see us get 4th place this year, would prefer us to win the Europa league. Correct me if I'm worng but I thought Liverpool were all about winning trophies? I understand the importance of us being in the champions league for money and attracting players. But I'd rather win a european trophy (which has some prestige) and take the more patient view that this will still allow us to attract decent standard players for our rebuilding process (which is another reason why I can be patient as I realise we are in transition), and then really push for at least a CL place next year. The buzz I get out of Liverpool winning trophies far out weighs anything I've ever felt for us finishing 3rd or 4th in the league. Its also been a few seasons since we won any silverware and there are a few players who deserve it. Might help to convince players to come and stay even with actual silverware on board (that isn't just the league cup or charity shield). It would show signs that we are heading in the right direction. Dont get me wrong but I'd love that we did both. Its not impossible but it is difficult and our fate for the CL spot isn't in our own hands (At the moment). If I had to choose one, I'd pick winning the trophy this year and pushing on next season.

The whole team was superb yesterday and it genuinely hard to pick out who was MOM. Not saying he was our best player, but what I did like was the type of performance of Gerrard. A lot of times against Chelsea in the past he has underperformed or looked to be the Hollywood player. Not yesterday. It was as controlled and disciplined and a team performance from him that I have seen in a long time. It appeared he was told to perform a particular role which wasn't the Hollywood one, and he stuck to it to the letter. Its as if Kenny's words about no-one bigger than this club really landed on him this week. Others are rightly getting the plaudits, but I thought i'd just get a word of praise in there for Steven for the type of performance he would usually not do or get the credit for, but he certainly did the job he was sent out there to do by Kenny. The Sky pundits must hate him not playing the limelight role of the attacking midfielder and instead doing something for the team and bigger picture other than just himself. Its great!
-
Its what I was thinking yesterday. Buying a top notch left back like Coentrao who is well capable of playing wing back, would give us a hell of a lot of options (whether we want to bring Kelly inside or leave him where he is, similarily whether we want to bring Johnson to the right or leave him). Its all about the options and as Kenny has proved this week he can mix things up a bit for the best should he have the personell to allow him to do it.
-
Chelsea can't complain about that. For years they got away with Carvalho manhandling people in the box EVERY corner kick. Lets just say Glen was there in that spot already and Ivanovic was the one to run into him but our Glen stood firm!
-
Agreed. Why make a noise when any chav player is on the ball. I'd far more prefer if we focused our energies on chanting and singing for our own team. Just ignore Torres. Leave the abuse on him to Carra and Gerrard. Something like how we collectively decided to get stuck into Pantsil during the Fulham game x 10, where in the end Pantsil ended up the one losing the rag and not focusing on hiw own game, and took a booking leaving him walking a fine line. I dont even think torres will start against us.
-
Couple that with "We're gona bite in a minute" for Saurez and the whole bounce phenomenon can live on!
-
As much as I'd like to see Torres stay until the summer, it looks like he'll be off sooner if not later. The biggest objection I have to selling him now is the lack of time he has left us to get replacements. He should have manned up and told us at the start of the window if he had respect for us. If we can do some decent dealings in the last few hours remaining I would happily take the £50m. I have me doubt we can though. Either way, I'd like the £50m to be spent on a quality forward and winger and think it is possible. The forward might not be quite the quality of Fernando, but we could definately strengthen overall and turn out to be a good deal (lets keep optimistic). Forward: Hulk, Carroll, Carodzo, Llorente, Pato, Eto'o, Cavani, Rossi, Lukaku, Neymar Wingers: Hazard, Sanchez, Turan, Honda, Vargas, Dzsudzsak, Jovetic, Coutinho ...to name a few options (and there are some). Things look depressing now, but may work out better in the long run.
-
Although I think it'll probably be impossible to get him from Porto at this point of the season, I think Hulk would be an ideal replacement for Torres and would be a devestating partner for Suarez (he comes off the right side a bit mirroring what Suarez does coming from the left). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usWDUGHfo-I
-
selling him at this stage of the season & transfer window would be mad. hold onto him til the summer, see how his partnership goes with saurez & if he still wants out then accept no less than £50m. if he does go we could bring in someone hulk & hazzard for that.
-
Apparently Euro 3m (what a steal!!!)
-
Certainly wouldn't mind that happening. I thought Medel would be an excellent like for like (possibly better in an attacking sense too) for Mash at the time and would only cost about £6-7m. Left backs could possibly be Juan Manuel Vargas (£15m my preferred choice as Coentrao is probably too expensive), Aly Cissokho (£12m), Taiwo (out of contract in the summer). Hazzard seems to be going to a bidding war and will end up very expensive. So alternatives would be Turan, Honda, Sanchez, Elia. And Suarez up front I feel would be a great partnership with Torres. Lukaku wouldn't be bad either but is certainly more of a risk. Dont think DM is a priority at the moment and think if we could bring in the quality likeabove for FWD, LM & LB we'd be doing well. Summer we can look at a DM, CB & RM.

beilsa (i wouldn't mind him getting the job, & hasn't been mentioned as a serious link at all even though he is available)
-
if that's what we need I'd rather bring on beilsa who is available, higher stock, loves studying the game & tactics, plays an exciting style& certainly challenges the norm. my only concern over him would be would his teams burn out over the course of a long season due to the type of football he plays which isn't such a problem when he manages international sides (argentina & Chile)
-
PLTBT (seems unbelievable for 2 reasons...the price quoted and "the metro")
-
Would be a good shout for manager (certainly more entertaining football). http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/06/08/marcelo-bielsa-chile-world-cup-2010-tactics/
-
Exactly. He certainly plays exciting football. It might not be the best route to a clean sheet, but if he still manages toget wins, then I dont think we'll worry too much. He's as mad as a hatter too, which would be a breath of fresh air compared to beige Woy. His 'novel' tactics and formations would give the Sky and MOTD pundits a good moan too. I think Boa, Emery (another nutter), Garrido, and Klopp (yet another nutter) tick the same sort of boxes as well in regards to playing a good brand of football we'd be happy to watch.
-
My fears to. I just dont see anyone from the home nations being suitable for what we need at the moment. Which is why I'd rather go with someone off that alternative list. All but Beisla are young but highly promising, and you could imagine them doing a good job and over a good few years too. Beisla is just very progressive and plays an exciting but hard working style, which I think we'd need as I dont think the NESV model will be to compete head to head on transfer fees with the likes of the 2 manchesters or Chelsea, so we'll compensate by being tactically more astute and harder working.
-
just testing and glad you picked up on my deliberate mistake ;-) ...I stand corrected! Thought he took over in Jan not July. He was the most risky candidate on that list anyway. But never the less all the other candidates on that list are the type of manager I'd be wanting us to go for. I'd be happy with any of those alternative choices.

I don’t think anyone is doubting that Roy should go. Its plainly obvious its just never going to happen for him at Liverpool. I think NESV are working behind the scenes to get his replacement. I have no sources to tell me this, but my gut feeling is it is so obvious and these guys appear very astute that they aren’t blind or stupid either. I feel they must be working quietly on getting his successor, and it’ll be like how they took over the club or brought in Comolli… all the hard work done away from the media eye. The obvious big names are the likes of Rafa, Hiddink, Van Gaal, Deschamps, Rijkaard, Quique Sanchez Flores. But I'm not sure we'll take that sort of direction. Pellegrini is gone. Lowe and Del Bosque are onto good things with their national teams so can’t see them leaving. If we can’t bring in the permanent manager we want mid-season, I’d be happy with Dalglish as an interim manager until the end of the season if necessary (and if he does well the job is his if he wants it long term). What is for sure is we need shot of Hodgson ASAP. There are a few very interesting alternative options to the obvious names I mentioned above. Some have been mentioned before but are all guys who I wouldn’t mind stepping into the brink instead of the obvious names… Marcelo Bielsa - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/398547-chile-marcelo-bielsa André Villas Boas - (although problem being its mi-season and he only just took over) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704380504575530111481441870.html Unai Emery - this article is older and doesn not include how he has continued do get better with Valencia, but I thought the situation he came into has some similarities with our current plight http://bleacherreport.com/articles/65646-miracle-man-unai-emery-working-miracles-for-valencia Juan Carlos Garrido - http://soccerlens.com/how-juan-carlos-garrido-has-galavanised-villarreal/57010/ Jurgen Klopp - http://m.si.com/news/wr/wr/detail/3053719;jsessionid=2703F052F57AFE57D71E99F85F3D4643.cnnsi1 Michael Laudrup – Plays attacking football and had a good record with Getafe and finished 5th last year in Spain with Mallorca (which is no mean feat with his resources – in administration in May 2010). His time in Moscow wasn’t so good though, so there is a bit of a risk there. Is a Liverpool fan though.

Not the greatest of sources but PLTBT!!!
-
am I wrong I believing he git madrids record points tally but unfortunately barca did the same in the same season & topped the table. either way getting around the 90 points mark shouldn't have seen him sacked, but that's planet real for u. I'd be very happy if he was our new manager. even happier if its very soon
-
Daglish Van Gaal Hidink Pellegrini ..to name but a few. The list goes on and to be honest the ones that are becoming a better option than Woy are growing everyday!!! What I do know for sure is Roy is not the answer and it is so plainly obvious I wouldnt given him any more time to proove the inevitable.

Desperately need 3 positions strengthened severely in January...LB, LM and a forward. (get Agger back in the centre and look at buying another CB in the summer with a defensive midfielder). January: LB = Cissokho, vargas, Taiwo, Coentrao LM = Turan, Mata Fwd = Dzeko, Forlan, Llorente, Cardozo, Summer: Defensive Midfielder = Defour, Martinez, Banega, Gary Medel, Melo CB = Luiz Not an exhaustive list by any means, but the type of quality I'd like us to purchase (of that lot maybe only Luiz and Dzeko are unrealistic)
