It appears that little thought went into the appointment of Roy, even less into the departure of Rafa. The probably belief by Purslow that "Rafa had to go" and should be replaced by a "safe pair of hands", at Roy's age by definition short term. We all like him, what's not to like; he's like everyone's favourite uncle with a few interesting stories to tell but you'd never rely on him to be around in a crisis. Anyone who believed that the players were looking for stability was sadly mistaken; players by definition live "on the edge" and in fact those looking for stability are likely to be those seeing the writing on the wall, in terms of their career at the club. A plucky run in the league and the UEFA don't constitute a route to stardom for a 63 year old; they may flag up a promising young manager but that's not where we are. It seems incredible to even consider that LFC would take such a short term view regarding his appointment but now the likely prospect of top 4 must seem in jeopardy, it's likely to affect sale prospects, player contract renewals and even ticket sales. If you look at our squad, it needs a manager who is highly regarded for his all-round tactical skills and not just the ability to defend tightly and grab a goal on the break. Dan Agger highlighted this in his article and whilst nobody likes to see a player bad-mouthing the manager's tactics, maybe he's just saying what the others are thinking.?
