Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I reckon Morientes or Cisse, possibly both, out to be replaced by a top goalscorer. If you look at the options we have in the squad for next season, it makes sense really. With Aurelio and Gonzales coming in, we are as well stocked on the left as we could hope for. A rightwinger is a given, with Gerrard and Garcia probably making up the alternative options on the right. That should leave plenty of opportunities to play Kewell and Garcia in the hole, a position I reckon Rafa thinks is their best for both of them.. With Fowler, Crouch and [pacy goalscorer], that gives you plenty of options up front, not to mention Gerrard being capable of playing an advanced role as well. Regardless of whether we sell both nando and cisse or just one, I can very well see us going with just one striker. If we buy another, I reckon it will probably be a very young one who will be happy with a marginal role.
CarraLegend Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 i reckon we will buy at least two. Same here, if we buy one and he gets injured then we're just in the same situation again, all be it with Fowler who should be even fitter but its debatable if he can do two games in a week now. So I defo reckon it'll be two.
Tommy Cockles Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 More central midfielders, at least 3 wide players, some defenders and a beak for eating honey.

So I defo reckon it'll be two. No we won't. With gonzales and a rightwinger coming in, we'll be in a position to play Kewell and Garcia up front far more than we have been able to this season. In fact I'd wager that if Kewell can redisover his scoring boots, that will be the real making of him at LFC.
Stevie H Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 kewell isn't a forward and has never really looked that good at anfield as a second forward either. think we'll sign two, both really f***ing good ones. though i'm buggered if i know who they are.
McBain Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 If we spend little on a rm, such as Pennant, then I can see two coming in. But that's also dependant on both Cisse and Morientes leaving.

That sums it up nicely As the right striker has to be the priority I think we'll put effort into getting Pennant so we can spend bigger on the striker. then depending on who we can sell - we are likely to go for a younger striker ( from abroad)
RafaShanks Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 think we'll sign two, both really f***ing good ones. though i'm buggered if i know who they are. I agree. It's always fun guessing who though
_00_deathscar Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 kewell isn't a forward and has never really looked that good at anfield as a second forward either. Arsenal in 03/04 at home when we absolutely battered them (Kewell scored) in the first half but eventually lost to a shyte free kick just before half time and then a Pires beau in the second half.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Oh ok then. that would have made sense if I didn't argue for it that is so. As it is...
Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Reckon we'll get one to replace Cisse. not too sure, tbh. Fowler's seems to have filled Morientes role up front pretty well and Cisse is after all a "23-year-old with pace". Reckon (well, hope) Nando will be out the door sonner than Cisse.

Reckon (well, hope) Nando will be out the door sonner than Cisse. Cisse will be gone. There are plenty of players out there with pace but also a reasonable footballing brain. Something Cisse unfortunately doesn't have.
Guest The Chunk Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Just because you're young and quick doesn't mean you're any good. Give me Morientes an experienced winner in the game and his superior technique and awareness any day of the week.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Ideally both will be replaced with someone better. Cisse however, scores goals and I reckon has a better chance of improving his performances with us if given the chance the Morientes has, whom I wouldn't bet on becoming better than he has shown himself for us so far.

How people want to keep Morientes over Cisse I'll never understand (although neither have been good enough in a red shirt). I feel that people are getting distracted by this holding up play thing and nice touches. Strikers are there to score. That is job number one. Holding up play is good, but goals are better. Nothing relieves pressure like a goal. Nothing helps away form like goals. Nothing gets the team playing better football like goals (or more accurately the confidence from a goal). FWIW, I think we'll sign two strikers.
abuusayd Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Rafa mentioned recently that Gonzales can also play as a second striker.
George Costanza Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 possibilites for sure. Still won't stop Rafa bringing in two strikers though.
Lee W Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Still won't stop Rafa bringing in two strikers though. It will if Morientes has a good World Cup.
Earl Hafler Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Cisse is out - i think that's pretty much certain.Maybe Morientes and maybe Sinama-Pongolle. I think it'll be two good forwards to go with Crouch and Fowler
George Costanza Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 It will if Morientes has a good World Cup. I can't see that influencing his decision even if Nando gets a game. The only possible reason I can see Morinetes staying is a lack of funds to bring in another striker in which case Rafa may perserve with him for a little while longer.
