Owen1978 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Reina for Spain! Hope Canizares & Casillas hit a bad patch!
Bootle Buck Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 And could take a nice pay off and get loads of dosh in Turkey.... I think he's been bitten by the Anfield bug.... What has been really sad is the fact that Morientes seems like a quality individual who any manager would love to have in his team. It seemed like the perfect match Rafa the respected Spanish manager and Morientes the 3 time CL winner and still only 29. However, it just hasn't seemed to work out the way we would have expected and liked. I think Moro would love to stay more to prove to Liverpool fans and probably the English media what a good player he is but I am not sure he will be given the time. It kind of reminds me of the Littmenan situation, a player we all wanted to succeed but didn't quite make the breakthrough.
Guest RedLegend Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Nice that he wants to stay but with his legs gone it might be better to make some half-decent cash from him and sell him back to Spain.
Fagan Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I actually don't think Moro has been off form. you can;t have a bad run off poor form for that long. I just think its a case of that he can't cope with the pace and physicality of the premiership. Hopefully he will go in the summer, for his sake and ours.
Boca Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 one way of putting it what I want to know is this: he gradually rumbled into life and just before Xmas was scoring and picking up man of the match awards since then he's had an injury and his form has dipped so how come people say he can't adapt to the PL/his legs have gone? either he's good enough or not; he can't sometimes be good enough What injury did he have ? Can't remember him being injured. That may explain his lack of sharpness but the one thing that really concerns me is he seems to have lost a yard of pace.
G Richards Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I don't think Morientes is the right player for us or for this league. That's not to say he's a bad player or anything, but he just doesn't have enough about him for the English game. He is skilful and a good man and all that, but I think it will be best if he moves on. I think Robbie Fowler has as much skill and vision as Mori, but he also offers more of a goal threat. Keep Crouch. Keep Robbie. Buy a new first choice strike pairing. That's the way forward if funds allow.
Figaro Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) Unbelievable - his first full season in a new country and people are saying he should f*ck off. Reality check please. Edited March 28, 2006 by Figaro
Fagan Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Sad to see that some people on here are still speaking through their cracks... so whats your take on it then? you think he should stay? based in what you know he can do, or what he hasnt done for us yet?
CaptainXabi Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Unbelievable - his first full season in a new country and people are saying he should f*ck off. Reality check please.Ok, so I take it you advocate keeping Cisse? It would only be fair.
Ombudsam Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Sad to see that some people on here are still speaking through their cracks... Morientes hasn't played very well for Liverpool Football Club
Figaro Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 so whats your take on it then? you think he should stay? based in what you know he can do, or what he hasnt done for us yet? Rafa laid it out clear - Morientes' play is an integral part of the team and is an essential part of buildup play when he's on the pitch but he should be more selfish at times. Instead of questioning Morientes I think people should be talking other striking options that don't add anything to the team

As has been pointed out, this is his first full season in this country. How can he be judged on that?
Figaro Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) Morientes hasn't played very well for Liverpool Football Club Neither had Kewell until December. Traore?Cisse?Warnock - remember the motorways he left down his flank? He's far from a finished product, is he?Luis Garcia - ALL season?Riise all season? etc etc... Blinkers off. People like Cisse? As has been pointed out, this is his first full season in this country. How can he be judged on that? I was thinking more on the lines of religious returns... Edited March 28, 2006 by Figaro

Ok, but Robbie is still getting up to the levels of fitness that Rafa requires and has already looked more dangerous than Morientes. And Riise?
L19red Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 i dont think 53 games and 11 goals is up to the mark personally, but if Rafa wants to keep him then who am I to argue.
Fagan Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) Rafa laid it out clear - Morientes' play is an integral part of the team and is an essential part of buildup play when he's on the pitch but he should be more selfish at times. Instead of questioning Morientes I think people should be talking other striking options that don't add anything to the team I take your point, and granted, his recent performances have been a lot better and his link up play is excellent. when we signed him, rafa said his qualities were he is good in the air, is a good finisher and can shoot with both feet. We knew that when he came and i was delighted, but he hasn;t demonstrated those qualities while he's been with us. I just think the english game is too quick and/or physical for him But I am entitled to question him, 1. as a fan and 2.when we paid 7M for him as a striker to score goals, and he clearly hasn't scored goals, and its not like he hasnt had opportunities, he has missed a fair share. he came with a well merited reputation as an intelligent player who could score goals. We all know what a clever player he is, but he hasnt been scoring and i think hes been here long enough to make a case for himself. If he stays i'll be happy enough, but i think we could do better and would advocate him leaving only if we can get someone better in. Edited March 28, 2006 by Afgan
Figaro Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Looking good won't win games. To go back to Sammya's point. Who has played well for LFC on a consistent basis through the season? GerrardCarragherFinnanReinaHyppiaAlonso That's half the team out straight away... As for a Cisse V Morientes comparison if that's what you want - how many off-the-pitch headlines has Morientes generated? Attitude problems? i dont think 53 games and 11 goals is up to the mark personally, but if Rafa wants to keep him then who am I to argue. Put those figures into context. The other strikers/goal figures. Then add number of injuries. Substitutions. Minutes played etc...
Ombudsam Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Neither had Kewell until December. yes he had and he is playing well now Traore? isn't good enoughCisse? isn't good enoughWarnock - remember the motorways he left down his flank? He's far from a finished product, is he? isn't good enoughLuis Garcia - ALL season? and still somehow has ten goalsRiise all season? on your own etc etc... Blinkers off. Morientes hasn't played very well for Liverpool in 1 1/2 years.
Figaro Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) I agree about traore but we weren't talking about him we were talking about RiiseYou said something about kewel not playing well since the start of the season so i ponted out that he was injured then. Morientes was injured for about two weeks in January. he played in the first game of the season v TNS and in the first league game (about 9 months after ) v Boro According to Raul Morientes has been carrying a thigh injury since October.
