Watching in Australia

I'm off to Australia tomorrow and I'll be in Sydney by the time the match starts it's a 12.30 kick off which I think makes it a 23.30 kick off local time.

Any Aussie Reds know if the game is being shown and what channel? I'm staying with relatives so I'm hoping they'll have whatever channel it's on 'cos God knows what state I'm gonna be in after the flight.

Also - do they show Champions League games over there?

Any help appreciated.

Will certainly be on some channel, probably Fox sports.

You'll get one of the Champions league games per week on free to air TV, SBS I think. The others will be on Fox.

I know its on Foxtel because one of my mates told me. I assume it will be shown on ESPN because it is an FA Cup tie. And yes Foxtel is the aussie version of sky. At the moment the games are starting really really late over here due to daylight savings. The Arsenal game was on at 7am for instance.

Every league game that is on Sky is on Fox Sports plus they have one of the 3-00pm sat games on as well, often us.

Some FA Cup games are on ESPN (The game on Saturday is)

SBS (Freee to air), show one live CL game from the Tuesday and Wednesday as do ESPN, ESPN also have another full game as live after the the live one finishes. I am not sure if the Benfica game is on ESPN yet, but it is not on SBS.

Hope this helps

just so you know, the basic channel package on foxtel gives you fox sports 1 and 2, so you get all the premier league games, but ESPN, where the CL and FA cup games are, is extra. Also, SBS will cover CL too and show a game.

the coverage here is much better than in England, because you get the 3 oclock game, and then 2 others on delayed coverage, and all the games that are not at 3.

The commentary however is crap. For example, against Arsenal, one of the commentators insinuated that we won because we never came up against Real Madrid. I usually turn the sound off.

Yeah, commentators more often than not are John Champion with Paul Walsh.

Not bad. Sometimes we get Alan Parry, and if we're lucky, we get Martin Tyler.

I heard that comment about Real Madrid. What a toss of a comment!

No mention of Juve and AC

.... but let me just say that the ESPN commentators are far worse

There may be a chance the Benfica game will be on SBS free to air.....they are broadcasting one of the Champions League games on both Wednesday and Thursday morning. Definitive news on who they are broadcasting should be available on Sunday at the latest.

They are showing the Arsenal and Chelsea games live.

Thanks for the heads up....looks like I'll have to wait till 8.45 to watch ESPN replay, and not find out the score beforehand.

No way I'll be able to wait to watch it delayed....my mates going to the game will no doubt be texting me throughout!

Onlt solution is to have a late night out and wake up at 8.40am

I'll be planning a sleep in. Unfortunately the ESPN commentators aren't the best; "I'm Tommy Smyth, with a Y!" Also for some reason the ESPN coverage loses a lot of atmosphere compared to the normal coverage of the Premiership we get week in week out. Mind you I forgot all that in the Olympiakos and Chelsea games at Anfield in last year's Champions League run.

You could turn the mobile off.....

also why do you need to have a late night out to wake up at 8.40 does that hinder them from sending you messages?

he commentators for the scum game were truelly awful and the picture quality was pretty poor.

Hopefully there is an improvement on both sides on Wednes morning.

'Fraid to say that it will be exactly the same on Wednesday morning as well....except we might get all-American commentators. If you want to get an indication of some of the commentary we might be in for you should go and read some of the Manchester Buccaneers website.

The picture quality is very poor because they bounce it off about 20 satelites apparently. The atmosphere you get coming through the satelite feed makes you think you are in the Anfield toilets, and not in the Kop. Dire coverage all up. I'm not surprised football is struggling to make an impact in a televisual sense in North America if that is what they have to experience week in week out.

The Benfica game is on delayed at 8-45am (ESPN), straight after another game. Good luck catching it.

For those in Melbourne the game should be on at the Celtic Club. If you wnat more details about the the venue reply to this and I will help.

Cheers

I'll be at home, but where is it just for future reference?

Righto I've just had a look at the website, they don't seem to be advertising the match mate...

EDIT: Just realised this thread is days old and you meant the United match.
