We are missing.............

Having watched the last 4 games it seems to me we are missing something other than blaming the strikers.

First of all exept for Cisse missing against the scum can anyone tell me another chance any striker has "missed" also Garcia against brum (only 2 though)

To score goals strikers need to be given the ball and the midfield create for them .

I cant recall only for once today a great ball been put in the six yard box.. we havent given them crosses that have been inch perfect.

I feel as a team we need to create more for the strikers whoever they are.

We have had very little of that from the team as a whole, corners set pieces around the box we are terrible cant deliver at all. while i agree the strikers are not on top form i feel the team as a whole need to look at the chances we are creating for them and when we do that then lets have a go at the strikers until then , we need to look at us to create more.

No we need strikers who are in positions to score and then score. Someone should have been at the end of Gerrard's excellent ball across the box from the left, for example. Garcia is one of the only players we have (discounting Fowler for the moment) who actually attacks a ball into the box.

Gerrard played a ball from the left wing straight across the six yard box in the second hald and there was nobody anticipating it , same again from finnan down the right on a couple of occasions , croach had balls played right to his bonce all night but could'nt do anything with em' , the problem isn't in the delivery or creation of chances but more in the respect of the forwards anticipating them and making runs to create oppurtunities .

To be fair to him the headers he did have where all under a challenge and where over hit to him not a real clear cut chance id say.

That doesnt matter really. When has he, this season, ever scored from a header and how many heading oppertunities has he had? Doesnt mater how clear cut it would be, he'd still miss it.

If our strikers had any sort of decent movement they'd profit from having players like Gerrard, Kewell and Alonso in the side. But they dont. And when you add a severe lack of pace to the mix it makes it incredibly difficult to create anything

Our current strikeforce is in it's worst shape in my time following the club. And we're relying on a fella who has barely played for two years to rescue us.

Agree, we've nothing.

Thing is, it's the most expensive part to buy for. Gonna need millions to get proven talent in.

What a load of b******s. I'll admit that he's not great in the air but to say he'll always miss is just stupid.

Ofcourse he wont miss every oppertunity that comes to him, but the amount of chances that he wastes is worrying.

If he won't miss every opportunity why say it?

He's not great in the air but I'll stand by the lad because he's been told to do a job and he's trying his hardest to do it. It's the lack of support from the midfield that scuppers a lot of our play.

A quality right winger will have the knock on effect of freeing up Stevie through the middle. Id say we need at least attacking players a right winger and a goalscorer. Stevie playing more centrally further forward will give us that creativity we're missing, and the right winger will hopefully provide better quality from out wide for our strikers that need that type of service.

we create, and have been creating enough chances. against the better sides like Chelsea nad Man u, you will usually creat less chances than against mid table sides. what we have been missing , is someone to put those chances away. we have players like Garcia, Kewell, Alonso, Gerrard, etc who will creat all the chances we need

We need to create about 5,000,000 chances per game to get a goal off Crouch, Cisse and Nando.

The midfielders are carrying the team and the weight of expectation.

As I said in another post, when he`s up front on his own his knock ons are wasted, now Fowler or erm, the same type of player as Owen on the end I think we would see a better response to the lad.

Crouch needs to get tougher, he's coasting at the moment.

We should have saved 7 million for the purchase of Crouch and put it towards a goalscorer whether it was Owen or whoever. We have no-one to compare to Crespo, RVN or Henry in fact our forwards combined won't even come close to any of them.

The closest player to most of his flicks in the first half was Riise, who was on the left wing, cutting in.

It's a pity we tend to hit it long so often when nothing much comes of it most of the time.

the average cost of those 3 will come nowhere near 7 million

Fowler and Cisse are the most likely to anticipate rebounds/deflections etc. Cisse will provide the speed we lack up front and Fowler the predatory instincts. One thing they have in common is that they have both got a record of sticking the ball in the net. Admittedly Cisse has yet to prove he can do it in England, but being played out on the right he's not likely to.

The cross from Gerrard which wandered across the 6 yard box would have been snapped up by either. Fowler will definitely be getting more games than he expected at this rate, and Rafa needs to decide to try Cisse in his natural position for a few games. Crouch needs a break and Morientes needs to stay on the bench.
