cymrococh Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) Wales are playing a friendly against a Basque national XI at some point. I seem to remember Guardiola playing for a Catalan XI while also playing for Spain, so are we likely to see Xabi turn out? If so, could be worth a trip down to San Sebastian or Bilbao for this one. PSDon't do a search for 'Basque team' at work. Edited February 2, 2006 by Paul Caruso
cymrococh Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Garthia, he ith Catalan. He come from Barthalona.

Eskimo Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Dem's Bretons. Dem's Gauls... Modern Basque is thought to be the direct descendant of that Aquitanian language spoken in southwestern Gaul and in most of the Pyrenees, with (so far as we know) only a rather modest extension into Spain, in eastern Navarre and probably Gipuzkoa. Hence, in origin, Basque was primarily a language of Gaul which later spread west and south into Spain, into the remainder of the modern Basque Country.
Gilps Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 My line up would be: -----------------------Obelix----------------------Xetxetrria--Xgouirnxa--Zevxearia--OpezecxiaVitalstatistix--Cacofonix--Getatfix--Unhygienix----------------Asterix-----Dogmatix------------- Getafix is ahowing his age now and Cacofonix is far too lightweight to cover for him. Savage should have an easy game.

Mad_Fer_It Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I'm basque... the basque country has a pretty good team... yestexabidel hornola fuentellorenteetxeberriagurpeguiartetairaola we always have good youngsters that come through the ranks and go on to play for spain...
Coyler Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 What's your sig about by the way?Eskerrik asko 'thanks very much' is, to my eternal shame, the only Basque I can remember from my fortnight's drunken stay. My signature gives thanks in pidgin Euskara and Spanish for the Basque that plays for Spain, Mr. Xabi Alonso (o.g.). It is also in the Mayo colours. Which happily coincide with those of the Basque country.

Or will Xabi and the boys turn out?
Mad_Fer_It Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 youngsters probably... the only time when these "national teams play" is in december because theres a christmas break in spain and all the little nations play each other and against other countries from south america or little countries in europe... theres also a political issue some players refuse to play for the likes of Catalunia and the Baque country while others refuse to play for the Spanish national side...
galés rojo Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 (edited) Will the team that plays against Wales be made up of youngsters then? Or will Xabi and the boys turn out? Can't see Xabi etc playing, the game is on may 27th so he'll probably be with the spain world cup squad. Edited February 2, 2006 by galés rojo
cymrococh Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Would be a nice touch if Juan Ugarte turned out. Assuming he's proper Basque.
