i don't think pearce really knows what he's doing yet. one of ireland / barton really should be sitting and mopping up in front of the defence.

 

think distin is quite an under-rated player though, i used to reckon he was s****. he's pretty useful these days.

Pearce seems to be continuing on with Keegans tactics, attacking wise they are really dangerous but they don't seem to be able to defend. As you say, Barton should be sitting in front of the back four but instead he is trying to do a "Stevie G" and cover the whole pitch.

van nistelroy should have been booked for that foul, he was tackled, and you could see that he was going to foul him from the moment he got up, late and nowhere near the ball. Bennett clearly saw it, a premeditated foul is a booking.

That's my point though, Gerrard is protected by either one or two of Xabi, Sissoko or Hamann - Barton is better than Ireland in that defensive midfield so he should sit there, otherwise i can easily see Utd getting a few.

To be honest, both goals could easily have been called up as offside, particulary the second. I would'nt be too happy with that if i those decisions went against us
