Stevie Right Mid?

Best performance from the skipper in a long time. He belongs in the free center role. Passing was awesome, and his runs was pure class. It's also more easy for him to fight for the team with him in the center, winning more balls. Albeit we need some quick tricky winger on the right and this team is perfect. January is going to be my favorite month.

About the bust up. How nice to see that the team even fights as a unity. While Crouch was pushing, Carra stuck out his leg for Bowyer to trip. And Stevie going mad.. Pure Class. t*** he is Bowyer. Nice to see him sent off. Glad Alonso is alright.

Although I was glad Crouchy was Mr Angry, cos I think that is how he needs to be, the rest of it was OTT, and I dont see what was so pleasing about it really.

Leave it to other teams to behave like prize twunts.

The foul was worthy of a yellow really, but as it was Bowyer - who cares ;)

I think the only reason people are happy is because we've been such a soft touch of late. Seeing Stevie,Carra,Finnan etc getting stuck into Shearer showed confidence, aggression and team spirit. We didnt see much of that in the league last season

Also Xabi tends to be on the receving end of bad tackles on a regular basis and its good to see his team mates take action.I just hope Stevie doesnt get a ban .....

f*** me if he does, shearer should spend his last season banned with the amount of shlt he gets off with.

Why should Stevie get banned? His reaction was perfectly justified. And it's not like he was being grossly violent or anything, it was just handbags, like he says.

spot on

over the f***ing top my a***. its called sticking up for team mates & its great to see. After the tackle on Didi the players were bound to be protective against such lunges (not that i'm comparing the two challenges)

I don't usually condone that behavior but I am tired of seeing teams take cheap shots ar our players. After Cisse's injury, Alonso's injury and some of the tackles on our players this year (Essien on Hamann), it just seemed good that our players reacted as a team and stood up for each other. That alone may discourage other teams from similar type behavior.

LIVERPOOL, England (AFP) - Liverpool striker Peter Crouch and midfielder Steven Gerrard could both have action taken against them by the Football Association (FA) after Michael Owen's return to Anfield descended into an ugly brawl.

Crouch and Gerrard both scored in a 2-0 win over Newcastle United as the European champions clocked up an eighth successive league win here Monday.

But the pair were later involved in a flair-up after Lee Bowyer's illegal challenge on Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso earned the Newcastle midfielder his fourth red card in 12 months.

Referee Mark Halsey let Gerrard off the hook after he confronted and then shoved Alan Shearer as the match exploded after half-time.

Meanwhile Crouch escaped with a yellow card after pushing Bowyer to the floor as Alonso withered around in agony.

The FA could now step in and investigate the ugly incident which marred a deserved win for Liverpool who put their FIFA Club World Championship final defeat behind them with a convincing performance.

"It was a dangerous tackle," said Gerrard, referring to Bowyer's sending-off. "I'm not sure if it was a straight red. Maybe a yellow would have been more sensible.

"I'm not proud of what I did but it was all handbags," the England international added after a win that left Liverpool third ahead of Wednesday's Merseyside derby away to Everton.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez insisted he did not see the incident while Newcastle's Graeme Souness also said he missed it - even though it took place right in front of the dug outs where the two managers were sat.

"I'm not fudging the issue but I didn't see it," said Souness. "You are always risking it if you launch yourself into a tackle like that.

"But I'm told by those sitting alongside me that there should have been more than one red card dished out."

if action's taken against Gerrard then it should be taken against Shearer too - Gerrard only reacted after Shearer had..

good to see our lads not being bullied out of it - Newcastle bullied Arsenal last week and got away with it and also with the 3 points.. our lads have obviously thought beforehand that if they try it on make sure there's no messing about.. nice..

i thought that if the ref saw it and gave crouch a yellow card it is deemed that he has delt with it and cant be changed to a red.

i might be wrong though.

Back here in Aus, we call that flying the flag, and Crouchzinho flew the flag, whether it was stupid or not (It probably was), it was still very good to see someone standing up for their mate.

Ditto Stevie, captain should be the first in there if one of your own just got seriously targeted

that's what i always believed. Crouchy was lucky not to be sent off imo. Rooney got sent off for much less v ben haim so i was fearing the worst

It was only the fact that the ugly fecker fell over that made it look bad (that or the shear force of Crouchmania). It was only a little push.

It was great to see Gerrard in there and I'll be amazed if any further action is taken!

Yup. It probably was silly and should stop short of pushing but about time the lads stand up for each other.

if the ref had taken action, as he could have, and sent someone off, and they where banned from our next games due to their indicipline - the reaction on here wouldnt be quite the same I suspect :D

Luckily the ref bottled it tho

Put of all the Liverpool players the luckiest was Gerrard......However if he had been sent off then so would Shearer and a couple of others

Thought it was great the way they all weighed in like that, for me it's a sign of a good team, they play for each other when they have the ball and when things heat up, they are still there supporting each other and getting involved as a team etc. And I thought Stevie deserved a special cheer too for grabbing the little knacker by the throat. Well in!
