Disgraceful Hillsborough Programme Shown Again

Apparently a show called 'Sporting Disasters' showed some graphic footage of Hillsborough last night in a section of the programme about 'football violence'. They went into detail about how hooligans caused the disaster by pushing people into the stadium.

I can't vouch for having seen this myself as it was posted over on Koptalk by a guy from Ireland, but it is obviously genuine and I thought I should make people aware of it. This was exactly what he said:

'Sitting down having a beer or two watching TV last night (about 12:50 am). The other half has an obsession with Reality TV at the moment. On came a show - "Sporting Disasters". Fair enough it was quite entertaining for a while; Ice hockey, basketball fights and so on, then they had a section on football hooligans'.

They showed quite a few rioting crowds then to my disgust they started showing images of Hillsborough, and lots of Liverpool fans in distress. I was horrified. They went into detail about how the hooligans started this by pushing more people into the stadium, and spent more time on this than anything else. The images were horrific; children laid out on the ground, people being pushed up against the fences etc. The voice over really set me off. It was an American show, but I was so furious I can hardly remember exactly what the narrator was saying. A mate of mine was over who is a Norwich fan, and he was shocked at what he saw and heard.

I'm going to email reality TV and demand an apology be posted on their website.

For anyone who wants to complain their address is:

http://www.realitytv.co.uk/index.php?section=ContactUs

I think the same programme may have been shown on the BBC a while ago.'

I remember this being shown on terrestrial TV myself - it is absolutely outrageous it is still going out on British television.

It has to be stopped; I know some of those on here and other sites have done huge amounts of work trying to stop this kind of ignorance, so I hope you can help. I'll register my complaint today and I'd urge others to do the same.

Similar thread already on some other LFC forums.....sent my complaint earlier this morning, and have also sent a mass email to my mates in order to create as much of an uproar as possible!

Disgusting that such a programme is still aired!

Assuming it's the same one (the program I think was called simply 'Disaster'), I saw it on Wednesday on Reality TV (6pm repeat).

The show was primarily about football stadia

The first half was about Heysel and how the disaster was caused by

-Poor ticket allocations

-touts getting hold of tickets

-Drinking (one account said it was normal, one said it was over the top)

-Poorly maintained stadium

-Chicken wire fence

They mentioned that a large proportion of blame is nowadays attributed to Liverpool supporters "trying to gain territory in the neutral, Z, section", but as I said, clearly acknowledged other factors. There was no mention of provocation by Juventus supporters. The images of the dead bodies and the crush against the terrace wall was graphic and quite disturbing.

The second part was about Hillsborough. As far as I recall it was clearly stated that crowd violence/hooliganism had no part to play in the disaster. They talked about Liverpool being given the smaller [Leppings Lane] end of the ground and how the number of turnstiles simply was not adequate for the number of supporters. Also mentioned about the gate being opened but little organisation inside, resulting in most fans being led down to the central pens. Again the scenes of the crush were disturbing and quite frankly, scary.

They also mentioned the Bradford Fire and also how sporting events are done in America. The show seemed a few years old as it mentioned 95 had died, and not 96.

Hope that helps

Its been on loads of forums mate, not just KT.

KT Insider News picked up on it after it was posted here as well as on other sites, so the info didn't come from there.

I honestly don't know if it was offensive or not, as I said I haven't seen it myself, but there seem to be plenty of people around this morning who were upset by it.

Well, there are folks on here who claimed to have watched to program and that there was nothing wrong with it.

How many people have actually WATCHED to program??

You can't jump the gun, believing sensationalist hype, and being quick to condemn without a single shred of evidence whatsoever, right, mate?

I know us fans are touchy about H'boro, but we have to establish FACTS before firing off angry letters.

I know the guy who posted it on the insider - it didnt come from KT.

The programme blamed liverpool 'hooligans' for what happened. Ive asked a few people who saw the programme and they assure me it sounds as though the makers used The S*n archives for their research.

Well, so now you have the folks you've asked against the folks on here, both who claimed to watch the SAME program but have different memories of it? Ever considered that those who claimed the program was offensive were wind-ups?

Words against words, isn't it?

This is England mate, we have "innocent until proven guilty" as a basic tenet of our justice system.

Don't be so quick to jump the gun all because of a number of s*** stirrers

If the Program was called Sporting Disasters and was produced by TLC / The Discovery Channel then please let me know in here. I have a letter from the director of programming at TLC who apologized for the content and context of the Hillsborough footage and withdrew it from the program. However there was only a very small segment about Hillsborough and football in that program. It sounds like this was something different.

Right, I have an explanation for this.

The channel concerned has shown two programmes this week, one called 'Disasters', the other called 'Sporting Disasters', both of which feature footage from Hillsborough but apparently 'Sporting Disasters' still suggests the tragedy was caused by hooliganism, wheras 'Disasters' broaches the subject properly.

Those who have made snotty comments should really have tried to keep it a little more civil when they didn't know all the facts (Realtarragona / Scouselad).

I wouldn't think I'd be alone in saying I'm pretty offended by the suggestion that we all over-react to anything mentioning Hillsborough and complain when we shouldn't.

There are 2 slightly different programs as Leo rightly says. Disasters is repeated THIS evening at 6:00pm. Sporting disasters is on again tomorrow at 12:00 MIDNITE (so early Sunday morning I guess).

Can someone please record the shows and TELL ME who made them. I know who to contact if it?s the same program as the one TLC said they would change. I also need to know about the amount of footage and if it is inside or outside the ground and the commentary.

If you don?t feel you can do this then that?s fine but I can?t act without finding out the right information. Anyone?. Sorry to ask..

You can contact me on mikeonthekop_no_spam_@hotmail.com if you want to keep this away from the forum.

Thanks

If it's a different program then I apologise.

It's not exactly inconceivable though that I thought you were talking about the same program. It isn't very often that the same tv channel would have two different shows talking about Hillsborough in the same week both similarly named.

But sorry anyway.

Cheers for clarifying that Rich.

It is 2nd hand info NHE as I explained so I can't personally vouch for the content, but others have and 'Sporting Disasters' was shown and is being shown again on that channel.

OK ? I?ll hang on to ensure it?s the same programme before I let rip. If it?s a different program then we need to let rip anyway.
