If he's at the club next season, it's as backup. He wasn't exceptional, but he was capable and kept it simple, I think he can do a job in the squad.

This is exactly right.

I hope he stays and pushes for a squad place but he's not done much to suggest he could make it - and I think the injuries mean he's probably missed his opportunity with us. Hope I'm wrong, but just don't see it

He could run so looked good in comparison to everyone else who couldn't run anymore.
