Tobes Rafa Posted yesterday at 06:52 Posted yesterday at 06:52 100%. Without at least one scouser we become just another Chelsea. 1
Flasher Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I doubt Jones wants to be sub anymore, he's at an age where he should be starting every week now. Sadly for him, but for that to be the case he needs to go down a level. He’s not the level we need to start most weeks for us. If he can be convinced to stay anyway then great, it's painful how few local lads or academy prospects we now have.
McBain Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago We'd need a coach who can bring through youth players to replace players like Jones. Nyoni should be on that pathway. You sell Jones, pocket the cash. His place is taken by someone younger who's more willing to accept the limitations because he's on the way up Except we have a head coach who has virtually no interest in youth. He's a cheque book manager who thinks only the most elite can play in his system. When in reality it's mid table shyte dressed up as something more 5 1

That said he's 25 and never really looked like making the step up. If he's fairly cheap then keep if he wants paying above his worth then you let him go. 1

To add to it though, I think there is a process issue as well. If management are handing out 3 year 'head coach' contracts rather than longer ones for manager, there is no onus on the HC to improve youth. All it tells them is that a down year will get them fired. And they will naturally take the safer approach which is to play their best 13 or 15 all the time. 2 1

That's an excellent point and I agree with you completely. Short term thinking across the board
YugoB Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Hughes and Edwards need f***ing off, no point keeping people in their positions who dont want to extend beyond their current deal. Becomes completely contradictory when rebuilding a team with them at the helm And thats before we get to the manager who has 1 year left on his deal and is clearly not getting a renewal 2

Not that many people seem keen on Tony Gordon and presumably Trent is a non starter. 1

We won the double in 1986 without a single English player in the side let alone a scouser (if you don't count Molby). It's nice to have but it isn't a reason on its own to keep someone.

"Scouser" possibly not but there are squad rules which mean it's necessary to keep around a certain number of players that have either 1) come out of the academy or 2) like Rio & Leoni will be - bought in early enough that they'll count as home-trained through their career Edited 14 hours ago by Gethin

St Mary’s is a private school but it’s not a full-on toff public school. Think the only one of those we had was Liverpool College. 2 hours ago, kop205 said: We won the double in 1986 without a single English player in the side let alone a scouser (if you don't count Molby). Terrible inspection.. ‘children don’t feel safe in parts of the school’, can’t afford the bills to keep the swimming pool open, the grand plan to sell the girls’ site and merge boys/girls school stymied by the listed part of the girls school making it hard to sell/redevelop. They also had to stop taking cash for fee payments as it appeared some families might be laundering money. I know a good few parents at st. Mary’s. They aren’t toffs and are mostly state educated who’ve done well enough to afford private education.

Yeah, and you’re absolutely right about that. But we’ve basically never been without a scouser in the squad and it’ll be a shame when/if it happens. Agree that it’s not reason enough to keep someone who isn’t good enough though.

Merchants always seemed a bit like that to me, attracting the type of families with a lot of fast cash from somewhere or other. Liverpool College probably did the right thing by turning into a state school, it’s definitely a bit too keen on the army though. I know people who’ve been to both, not sure I’d recommend it but that pathway seems to cough out some interesting, slightly conflicted people.
