And yet scored double the goals Barkley did playing for a worse team this year

He's had an injury late in the season hence why they played him in all 3 warm ups

Barkley has talent but he gives the ball away a lot

other side of the argument is that it was a manc team that underperformed miserably and in which he was the central figure. barkley inconsistent, but one of the pluses for a resurgent everton. not that i'd personally frame this as a straight choice between the two.

do think if rooney starts it shouldn't be in the hole. i'd go a diamond with any of sterling, lallana or barkley behind rooney/sturridge if they were determined to get him on the pitch.

think most would agree Moyes was the central figure to Utd's fortunes last year

sure, but then england have roy hodgson managing. just think that england, like the mancs last season, aren't going to get much attacking magic or impetus from their coach, so an adventurous, risky selection not necessarily a bad thing. he's going to play obviously, but think now wrong to see rooney as either the best hope of that adventure, or, even, the safe, reliable first option.

So?

French second-tier outfit Clermont Foot have announced that Portuguese manager Helena Costa will take over next season. Costa, 36, will become the first female coach of a French professional club.

Announcing the appointment on Wednesday, a statement on Clermont's website confirmed that Costa – who was most recently coach of the Iran women's team – will be introduced to the media after this season's final fixtures have been completed.

Will this be the last post in the toady of 2013-14?

Uefa are wiping the yellow card count after the quarters, to try reduce the risk of the Xabi scenario from this year's CL final.

Should have realised this needed doing when Nedved missed the final a decade ago.

w*****s.

From the beeb..

In a joint news conference on Tuesday morning to explain her departure, Costa said she was leaving for "personal reasons" while president Claude Michy said her decision was "astonishing and incomprehensible"

"She's a woman," added Michy. "They are capable of leading us to believe in certain things."
