Putting aside the fact that he's a Tory t***, it's really pretty mad how this whole thing came about, the way it was reported, what happened to him (i.e. being hounded out and forced to resign) and now the real story comes out...

In Summary - Mitchell almost certainly did not say any of the stuff he was accused of saying. The Police leaked lies to the Sun (sounds familiar?) and the only "witness" wasn't actually a witness, and is actually a policeman, so no conflict of interest there then..

 

There's a link to the (slightly too long and at times Chris Morris-esque) Channel 4 news piece on the incident. Quite amazing to see the bit where they play a tape recording of what Mitchell said in a meeting with a local police federation, and then a polce man who was in that meeting lies about what Mitchell said (or didn't say) in that meeting.
