Who is everyone backing?

The rough has been described as brutal, so I'm thinking Donald and Westwood - guys who keep it straight tee to green.

I'm sticking a fiver on Jimenez, on the basis he waved in thanks as I let him jog across a zebra crossing this morning. Looking in great shape too for someone who must be around 50, and has a penchant for huge cigars.

I also fancy Carl Pettersson, think he's due a performance in a major.

I wouldn't back Westwood.

There's a 24 page feature in tomorrows Racing Post which should be essential reading. Think they tipped Molinari @ 50-1 for first round leader in the Scottish Open

Think the consensus is that Thursday afternoon starters will have the better of the weather

I had a dream Tiger won so placed a small bet on him, but its ridiculous he's still favourite.

Going on the Sunday, hoping for some nice weather!

Having had a winner and an all but winner this year in Bubba and McDowell, I'm gonna stay loyal and stick with the pair again.

My younger brother is a member at Royal Lytham and he will be ferrying players around the place for a few days, his daughter is working litter patrol for 4 hours a day.

I'll call him on Wednesday to see who is looking good on the range before placing any bets.

Woods tees off at 3.42am our time, so I doubt I'll be watching much of his round.

Why the f*** is he 90-1 then?!

I was hoping someone who knew something about golf could maybe explain it? I heard about the rough being bad and you wanting to back someone who had accuracy off the tee and onto the green so I looked up the stats for this season and his name stuck out. Some golf junkie in work swears by him and is always backing him to win and going on about it.

I wish my garden drained like that Golf Course. Piss wet through, muddy boggy s**** everywhere at 11am today, bone dry just about everywhere by 3pm.

The wind is gong to play a major part in this, and it's forecast to keep blowing. Justin Rose looked good, Westwood was his usual perfection tee to green on the few holes I saw, but his putting was all bin lid/2putt stuff and his practice chipping was s****.

Most today were spraying their tee shots all over the place, Poulter lost 1 of the 3 balls he dropped in the rough to practice with it was that deep, despite the assistance of his mate, Ray f***ing Parlour.

Picking a winner will be a lottery, more so than usual for a major.

Has a reputation for throwing up a decent winner (even Duval was s***-hot at the time he won) so will be interesting to see if that continues.

Not made the cut the past three Opens. Last time he made the cut at a major was the US in 2010

Before his recent patch of good form he was nowhere to be seen. Outside the top 200 of the Fed Ex ranking and way down the PGA money lists.

Only since his win at the Texas Open a few months back has he actually figured notably in any rankings - and that was hardly an elite field.

My mates daughter (she's Kevin Williams cousin) is at Uni. She's dead pretty like. She got a gig working on some refreshments/food supply company for a movie with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie last week down that there London somewhere.

She turned round to her dad last weekend and said, They want me to go do a few days in Lytham St. Annes next week for some sportsmen or something. He says, 'Lytham, you mean the open?' She says yeah but I don't think much of golf. He went nuts, loves his golf does Chris.

I helped catch a robber at Lytham in 1996, he grabbed a wallet at the bar and legged it, me and the 4 MASSIVE geezers chasing him with me sorted him right out!!

I've played Lytham, it's f*cking animalistic, with the weather we've been having it will be carnage out there.

I fancy Rory to win it, but to be fair betting on golf is a bit of a lottery.

That is all.

I was there in 96 when Lehman won. Put it in the bushes with only a few holes remaining and we thought Faldo was going to win another. Somehow he managed a to lose only one shot to the field

Harrington or Els could all the first non-maiden winner in over 2 years. Tempted with Harrington or Ben Curtis for first round leader.
