WARNING:Very Nostalgic post

 

 

Watching some clips of Liverpool in the early 2000's.

 

I know it was always said that Smicer and Litmanen were on the same level but there was only a 12 month period for them to get acquainted with Robbie before Robi ;) left for Leeds.

 

Remember the last of Fowlers hat trick vs Leicester in 2002, quality build up play, would love those guys back in their prime.

 

A solid 2 in midfield with Gerrard in there floating with Liti and Vladi behind GOD

A while ago I was trying to find online footage of our 5-0 win in the League Cup against Palace, but couldn't find any. It'd be great to watch some of that again, we were really on it that night.

When Biscan scored, I thought he was going to be a world beater after that.

 

It was also the night I brought my first child home from the hospital so it must have been end of January 2001. A perfect day.

Is there a player in LIverpool's history that has been as over rated as Litmanen?

do what. I don;t think he was overrated. Fantastic player in his day but too injury prone and past it when we finally got him. Think of Jari in his prime taking over Alonso's role now - perfect for him.

 

There a long list of over rated players - and Jari isn't even close to that list.

You used to get people furious that he wasn't in the team when he was largely bobbins.

It's international week and I choose to think about Jari drilling in 50 yards goals against the mancs for fun. And nothing you can say will stop me.

That's not true

 

He played ahead of one of Heskey or Owen. Usually Heskey.

 

He never played in midfield like Smicer did.

and both of them went though plenty of phases when they couldn;t hit a cows a*** with a banjo.

He was hugely over rated.

 

He did next to nothing at Liverpool in reality.

 

Like Riedle. Both obviously had class but came here when they were way past their best

When fit he was used very oddly.. scored then dropped - a few times. Not used in Europe when he was the most experienced player available.

 

too many injuries and clearly headign towards the end of his career but over rated? and free!! I reckon you started your weekend drinking too early.

 

 

now Riedle I totally agree with - didn;t come close to producing..

You got a flavour of what we might have had from Litmanen in that game.

And he was free. You don’t get a player like that on a free without some issues – his was his inability to play for more than a few games – certainly in the Premier League.

 

Now maybe you though we were getting some sort of wonder player who was going to get the pulse racing in every game – after all we’d had that with the likes of Fowler and Owen so I can see where the expectation came from – however don’t go projecting your rating system over the rest of us…

 

Fantastic player, end of his career and available on a free.. might have been great – turned out to be good. Over rated? By you maybe..
