brilliant.

I can only imagine the outrage and indignation if MOTD or Sky were to run a mutd goal of the season competition now though.....

[A@A] they do, they just don't call it that[/A@A]

aye, you (or someone else maybe) could argue that their whole output amounts to nothing more.

Agree completely. Barnes looked like he was playing a different game to the opposition and the prize of £200 in prize bonds for the winner speaks of another time.

what a team we had there.. seriously i dont think AC Milan would have won any European Cups in that time if they had met us.. I think even Sacchi said something similar.. If we played that sort of football weekin week out I think even 100,000 capacity would be sold out every fortnight.. just awesome.. Just a question how many of our current players could get in that team..

Thats a very flawed and arrogant statement. Not that I'm qualified to comment on it, but attractive and free flowing as that team was, from my impression, it lacked the ferocity and mentality of the late 70s and early 80s teams, which is why the former were all conquering but the latter was a souped up Arsenal. The Paisley team, as Saachi's team, was a crushing team.

We had a great team, but we only won one more League title after that so to assume we'd have won several consecutive European Cups is a bit optimistic.

I think we'd have given AC Milan a better challenge than any of the other sides they had to play in that era, but it's unlikely we'd have beaten them year after year. Even Paisley's team couldn't win the EC every year.

Maldini, Baresi, Tasotti, Costacurta, Gullit, Rjkkaard, Van Basten, Donadona etc... perhaps the greatest football side ever ...yip.... they wouldn't have won a European cup.

That Liverpool side was magnificent to watch but they were also out-muscled and out-thought by a team of builder's labourers. Milan were as close to football perfection as you can get. They had half a dozen of the greatest players to ever play the game. They'd heart, skill, intelligence and they had a brilliant manager.

Now, as someone else said, a competition between Paisley's Liverpool and them; that would be something to watch.
