because apparantly he was qustioned as to why Stephen Darby didnt play at Boro and he said that in his opinion (Ablett's that is) none of the current ressies are good enough to play ar Prem level....and that Benitez is always looking to promote players but they are not upto it

 

as an example he said he had a meeting with Benitez about it last week and Rafa pressed him in Darby as he was thinking of using him and GA said no....he said he had an e-mail from Rafa at 0400 on Sat morning about Darby.....and to infer Rafa isnt interested in promoting is untrue

 

anyone there to clarify his comments?

Also, the Mancs have blooded quite a few and their reserve side wasn't as good as ours last season.

Put this in another thread a couple of weeks ago.

A few of the younger lads we knock about with are mates with Abletts Son. He sorted them out tickets for Madrid away, and gave them a tour of Melwood when they went to collect them

Anyway they had a chat with him and Ablett said that he didn;t think any of the reserves were ready to play for the first team this season.

In a strange way I'm glad to hear this, if true, the reason the reserves aren't getting a look in is down to pure football ability and not internal politics. Obviously I'm also disappointed that none of the reserves are quite good enough!!

I think San Jose, Spearing, Darby and Nemeth could play Premiership football now although only Nemeth has the quality to threaten our first team regularly at the moment.

did evans not come through their youth system?

Evans came through their youth system, but he had an extended loan spell at Antwerp and two separate spells at Sunderland - one in the CCC, one in the Premier League (both January-May in consecutive seasons) where he was playing regularly and, certainly in the second spell, demonstrated that he was a more than capable Premier League player.

 

Welbeck has played about two games for them, so applying the same logic we had blooded Plessis - who has featured more for us than Welbeck has for them.

 

If they have Rafael, we have Insua as the token South American full back.

 

And finally Gibson - who is not good enough, is already in his early-twenties and will soon be on his way out. He's their equivalent of El Zhar - only he has played even less.

Not really. They've 'blooded him' in the sense that they'd already sent him off on loan three times, to progressively higher levels, to see if he could cut it. Thus the risk of 'throwing him in' is minimised because he has already proven himself a Premier League standard player.

 

I maintain Darby is never going to be a Premier League standard player. He's not quick enough or good enough on the ball to play full back at this level.
