The latest e-mail from ShareLiverpool (as ever, cue the 'nice idea but it will never happen' responses!):

 

Come and join ex-players, the ShareLiverpoolFC board and the Secretary of State for Media, Culture & Sport in our campaign for fan ownership

 

Don’t forget to put this event in your diaries, and get along to the Liverpool Lighthouse on Wednesday. We’re stepping up our bid for fan ownership of Liverpool FC, and launching a new phase - so come along and bring your mates – especially those who don’t get onto the internet very often.

 

The meeting’s organised for just before the second leg of the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday 27 August, at the Liverpool Lighthouse, in Anfield, starting at 5.30pm. There will be plenty of time to make it to the match – the Lighthouse is on Oakfield Rd, just 2 minutes walk from the ground, and we’ll be done by 7.00pm.

 

You’ll hear from Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport and former Chairman of Supporters Direct, Andy Burnham, ShareLiverpoolFC board member John Aldridge and other ex-players. There will also be the chance to ask questions about how it will all work.

 

You’ve read all about our transfer sagas this summer, and the incompetence and paralysis at the top of the club. Our great club is in peril. Show your support for LFC by committing to the ShareLiverpoolFC project – either on your own or in a group – or with your time and support. Please don’t forget to pass this invitation to a relative, friend, neighbour or workmate – especially those who might not go on the internet very often.

 

Numbers at the event will be strictly limited by the size of the venue (about 400 people), and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. So get there early if you want to be sure of a seat. There’s a café at the venue if you want a bite to eat before the match.

I personally don't think the shareliverpool scheme will ever work, but fair play to them for trying, I would wonder how it would be possible to add additional investment into the club when needed for team additions etc when needed

ShareLiverpool require 100,000 people to pay £5k each for a share, or to group with their mates to buy a share. Nobody can have more than one share.

If it works, and I hope it does, it'll succeed due to support from more than just local fans, it'll be owned by people throughout our national and global fanbase.

They've stated it as their ultimate aim so i'd like to to think they spend most of their time and energy working on accomplishing that.

No, Maldini, totally separate entities, although there are obviously crossovers in terms of people.

 

[ps as I've stated before, I am not on the steering group for ShareLiverpool, although I do know people who are, so apologies if I get something wrong].

 

fao surf: no more than one share is the ONLY way to do it, in my opinion.

 

And the other poster is correct - a lot will come from outside of the UK, as tangible evidence of their support, as they can't get to Anfield.

 

As I keep saying, I think there will come a tipping point, when people realise that this is a serious and feasible option.

 

But then my cup is always half-full!!

i'm more concerned that the SOS hasn't built on the momentum it had throughout the back end of last season. a whole close-season went by where fans heard very little from them. what momentum was there, particularly in media terms, has been let slide.

The clear difference between the two is that ShareLiverpool has a single aim - 'the democratic ownership of Liverpool Football Club'. There's no room for confusion there as far as I can see. I've found their communication via email through Rogan Taylor to be clear and concise.

 

SOS has multiple aims and doesn't speak with a single voice. Some of its public pronouncements have appeared at odds with its aim of representing all Liverpool supporters, as this thread shows. SOS really needs a leader or figurehead equivalent to Rogan Taylor to speak for it rather than a multitude of individuals.
