Gunga Din Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I'm glad i'm not a Newcastle fan, f***ing hell, they are s****. not taking anything away from us today, i thought we played really well, watching Torres and Gerrard link up today was like turning the clock back 25 years and watching Souness and Dalglish. they ripped Newscastle apart all afternoon. i also felt we moved the ball better from midfield to the front today. i still dont think we are playing anywhere near our full potential, but we are improving, and i'll settle for that right now. Skrtel looks like a player too, he seems to have a lot to his game, and is pretty quick too.
Falconhoof Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 How did Penant, Benayoun and Lucas get on ? We haven't seen much of them in recent games so I was wondering whether they slotted in and looked on the pace ?
Jim D Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) What did you think about Benayoun and Pennant? I felt they had a chance today to stake a claim in the first eleven, to prove to us the fans that they were capable of being in a championship winning side. Felt both were mediocre and didn't really impress. Babel has now overtaken these players in the pecking order and one of them at least will be moving on in the summer. Edited March 8, 2008 by Jim D
DazzlaJ Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 What did you think about Benayoun and Pennant Anny? WTF?

Lucas looks like he has all the ability in the world, played better than Xabi today, and hit some great passes. Yossi was decent too, for such a small fella, he doesnt half put himself about.
Guest Kaizer Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Its pretty easy, Alonso is back and we are playing beautiful football, thats all thats need sorted.

I'd like to think the current formation was one we could build on and that we'd only buy players for the weakest positions within that formation and start to really go forward in the league.

Ben 23 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Pennant was s****, he scored, but if he had ever known anything about it it would never have resulted in a goal. f*** off was he... He wasn't at his best today and still showed why he should be first choice in that position from our current squad. Hope Aurelio can replace Riise again soon as well.
DazzlaJ Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 i didnt think alonso had the best of games today I thought he below average, we missed the sweeping of Masch

Rimbeux Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 f***in 'ell this thread is Agenda City, ridiculous.
Guest Prongsy Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Was Babel just rested? Yeah, rested for the big game. I think it's going to be counterattack city in Italy.
Ben 23 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Yeah, rested for the big game. I think it's going to be counterattack city in Italy. Babel on the left, Pennant on the right?

johngibo YPC Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Do you think the current formation is a sign of progress or do you think it won't be too long before Rafa startsd making changes to players and formations again? Why is everyone asking Wayne questions like he's the f***ing Dalai Lama!!!I thought we looked abit flat first half an hour but got more confidence when we got the goal and killed them with 15 minutes of quality which showed them up for what they were. The rest of the game was a training session (much to the annoyance of my dad who had £1 on Pennant 4-0 at 125-1). Lucas was very tidy. But Benny and Pennant struggled in my opinion. Yossi looked abit short of games, whilst i don't think Pennant is suited to the formation. I've got a feeling he might go for a decent offer. Anyway nice to have comfortable home wins again isn't it!!!

Aye, no credit at all for the goal... well a little seeing as he tried to close Enrique down but not a lot anyway. But I still thought he was a little bit dangerous, a wee bit exciting when running at the defence and although his crossing was s**** today he hasn't played in a while and it isn't always that bad. He just has something about him in my opinion that Kuyt doesn't, and the other players seem to like playing with him - Gerrard and Torres in particular today, not saying they don't like Kuyt of course... He was better than Benayoun for me as well today. He's not the answer to that role long term but I think he is for the remainder of the season. Starting away at Inter where his pace on the counter along with Torres and Babel should see us causing them lots of trouble...

Thats all.
johngibo YPC Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 No chance of Pennant playing ahead of Kuyt at Inter
Earl Hafler Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Its pretty easy, Alonso is back and we are playing beautiful football, thats all thats need sorted. It's not that simple. Xabi has played many times before and we've been s***.
