Liverpool starlet quits for Man United due to too many foreigners

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez's project of snapping up the worlds top young players has backfired on him after losing top prospect Scott Wooton to Manchester United.

The People are reporting that Wooton, who has been with the Merseysiders since he was 12 was not happy with the amount of foreign players that were blocking his path at Anfield and was also unhappy with the length of contract offered to him by the club.

United were aware of the youngster potential and offered him a pro deal at Old Trafford after just one trial game for the U18's.

The story I read didn't mention foreign players.

Just that he was unhappy with the length of contract

If he was good enough "the foreigners" wouldn't be getting in his way, would they?

You may find he's not the only one to leave pretty soon.

Such as and for the same reasons?

Can't name names, but yes for the same reasons. Whether or not the English lads are better or worse than the foreign youngsters, the English ones feel they are already behind them in the pecking order.

Tough sh*t then - they should buck up.

If they were good enough they wouldn't be behind in the pecking order. They need to stop making excuses and get on with it.

Exactly so. They might stop listening to their Dads too...

In the last 10 years can anyone name a promising reserve/youth player who didn't make it with us and went on to make it elsewhere?

Has any story like this ever been justified?

Good point - Robbie Keane? John O'Shea?

How many english players played for the reserves yesterday?

1. Dean Bouzanis (Aussie)

2. Stephen Darby (Captain) (English)

3. Emiliano Insua (Argentinian)

4. Mikel San Jose Dominguez (Spanish)

5. Daniel Agger (Danish)

6. Damien Plessis (French)

7. Ryan Flynn (Irish)

8. Jay Spearing (English)

9. Krisztian Nemeth (Hungarian)

10. Xabi Alonso (Spanish)

11. Harry Kewell (Aussie)

Substitutes:

12. Martin Skrtel (Slovak)

13. Peter Gulacsi (Er....)

14. Gerardo Bruna (Brazilian)

15. Martin Kelly (English)

16. Jordy Brouwer (Cloggie)

This team was skewed by having Agger, Alonso, Kewell, Skrtel and Bouzanis in it though - normally, you would expect Martins, Crowther and Huth among others to be in there. the team regularly plays with between 4-6 English/British based players in it. Basically, if they're good enough they get in.

Ah well like people are saying if they're good enough they'll make it regardless of age or nationality. It's not just our academy that are stock piling foreign youngsters and Arsenal have been doing it for probably the longest under Wenger.

A prime example of the latest "young English talent" to come through is Walcott and he's hardly setting the world alight.
