Last time I ever scream at a Ref.

:D

At least you are giving it a go. Stick with it mate after a few games it becomes easier.

Go to all the referee's meetings you can and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I was given some solid advice when I first started:

Always treat players the way you would like them to treat you, even when it gets impossible.

Make a mental note of the biggest mouth and try and open up some form of communication with him, if you get him on your side you get the whole team.

And the best one, if you make a mistake - hold your hands up and admit it. Players are definately more likely to be forgiving and less likely to give you hassle if you do this.

Coincidentally I got lumbered on sunday too. The lads played the local 'erberts from the big estate up the road, not bad lads really but gobby as feck never stopped whinging and bitching, probably 'cos their manager was leading from the touchline even though he knew I am not a ref. I had a few words and I did warn him I had a hangover and wasn't in a good mood.

Their lad went down the touchline and our kid 'clipped him', the kid stumbled and carried on, during the time he ran about 30 yards the manager was moaning about the foul and calling me blind so just as the kid was about to square the ball to his centre forward to tap it in I blew for the foul.

The manager went beserk now asking for the advantage to be played.

'You wanted your free kick well there you go' I said. The kid floated into gently into our keepers hands.

'You're the ref you should over rule our manager, he's a dick head' said one of the kids.

hehe, little victories that's the most you can hope for..

Is the right answer!

The more you do it, the more you feel in control of the game.

Collina them if they get to up themselves.

Good, with luck they won't ask me again and I didn't cheat well enough obviously 'cos we lost 4-3.

Found out today the gobby manager is on the league Management Committe, there's no hope is there....

yep, missed acouple of fouls, looked down check my watch and saw a foul late and gave a penalty that wasn't, and booked the wrong player after a handbags situation.

I agree, every player should do it once, as should the morons who make the rules about offside.

So in the space of 90 minutes in your first game:

1 - Missed a couple of fouls !!! Excellent ratio

2 - Gave a penalty that wasn't - Rob Styles !!!! Even the pro's get it wrong.

3 - Booked the wrong player after handbags - I guess there were several players involved, so you got one of them :)

All in all mate - good start - keep going.

Rather you than me Growler - terrible job.

Plus I love moaning at refs and wouldn't want to be overcome by empathy by doing it myself...
