Hicks and Gillet publicly came out tomorrow and gave Rafa their full support and promised him shed loads of money in the summer.

OR

DIC buy out Hicks and Gillet and then annouce they will be looking for a new manager in the summer.

What option would you support ?

How much is shedloads and how much would DIC be giving their new man ?

Define a "shed load".

Enough to make Rafa smile.

The second option.

But it's all ifs and buts, isn't it?

Eh? that goes against all the things I've been reading in your posts recently? Apologies if I'm wrong, but weren't you saying there was no decent alternative to Rafa? And you also wouldn't chose this option if he was given loads of money to spend (which implicitly means G + H were in fact not the total 'in it for the money' business men they appear to be at present)?

What if DIC came in and wanted to install Mourinho?

The board is more important than the manager, the manager is more important than the players. Offer me a choice between Benitez and Gerrard, I'd take Benitez.

At least if the DIC did say that, we'd be settled, if the yanks threw money at it, we'd still have a manager who's been placed in a position that is nigh on untenable.

It's irrelevant anyway seeing as the yanks have more than a foot out of the door. They're that close to the door they aren't even coming on Tuesday, that's how close it is.

What if DIC came in and wanted to install Kelvin McKenzie as PR man?

Hey if we're dealing in fantasy world why not have a slice of s*** pie to go with it?

But what if all three appeared in a hot tub and vowed to be lifelong friends ?

Admittedly this is all hypothetical, but it still doesn't explain your contradiction. If Rafa is the manager for you, and the two guys in charge of the club (currently slated for not backing rafa and for not wanting to put their own money in to the club and bleed it dry) actually go against both of those things and spend big and therefore back him in a very big way, how could you not want this? In what way does giving a manager a shed load of cash at the start of a new year mean he is in an 'untenable position'.

In fact, going one step further, (and also not hypothetical) they very reporter who is gving most of the info on the G + H situation is also stating that an unlikely bond has developed between Rafa and Hicks.

pretty self-serving set of choices there Kev, the current owners have already lied about making funds available, and invested less last summer than we did under moores in recent seasons.

If the yanks were here to stay then I'd want Benitez to leave, not for footballing reasons but for the simple reason that their gross mismanagement has undermined him and left his position totally untenable. There's just no way I can see him having any success with those two clowns breathing down his neck and continually undermining him with their lack of basic know how. I still don't think there's a better man, but maybe someone else will have a working relationship with them. Because they've removed Benitez's.

But as they're off in the immediate future, I want him to stay with the backing of the DIC.

If the DIC were to come and say 'Look, Rafa's not for us, we've got this plan for the club and we're going to do this.' I'd have a heavy heart, but I'd accept it.

The realistic answer is Benitez will be hear with the backing of the DIC. It would be political suicide for the DIC to come in and sack Benitez.

I can't really see much point in DIC coming in and saying they'll have a new manager next season. Unless they want to make Rafa walk of his own accord - and that would be a dirty trick, not becoming of owners of Liverpool FC. If they want to make a change, come in and say they don't want Rafa, then fair enough. Send him on his way and bring someone else in. If Rafa stayed under those conditions, what would the rest of the season be like? Couldn't be any worse than it is now, you might say, but actually it could.

If DIC came in and completely undermined the manager with so much of the season left they would prove themselves to be just as incompetent at running the club than the current muppets. So I'd have to go with option 1.

In fact, if G&H had an ounce of intelligence, they would have done this already even if they were still selling up.
